- Lee WAccrington, UK77 contributionsWe decided that we wanted to hike Mt. Maglic on our trip and chose to through a company called Much better adventures on a group trip. This company used EST Adventure as the local company to guide us.
The pre departure information was enough to get by with, and whilst we was on a short pre climb holiday in Croatia more information came through to us regarding what to expect. We was collected at Dubrovnik airport and taken to Trebinje in Bosnia passing through 2 passport controls along the way. We met our guide Igor here and had lunch before heading on tour local hotel for the night.
The drive up to the start of the hike was a very bumpy journey and after an hour we was at the start of the trail.
The hike was beautiful, passing through trees and bushes before hiking up steeper paths to the start of the cable sections. The cable was a little loose and Igor advised against using it, which was not a problem as there was plenty of rocks to get hold off and climb up. Igor watched over everyone at these points to ensure everyone passed safely. After another hour we crested the ridge to see the summit nearby. A final 20 minutes of gentle walking and final scramble and we was on the summit of the highest mountain in Bosnia.
The descent was arranged to visit Trnovacko lake which even though looked far away was inviting us to visit. The descent started off quite gentle through the undulating hills, but soon became very steep on slippery scree paths. This particular section took us an hour to descend and plenty of rocks were knocked off the path higher up that bounced down around us. Care has to be taken at this section and the training that you had to put in prior to the hike stopped your legs from burning up. Eventually we arrived at the emerald green Trnovacko lake and some of our group had a swim to cool off. After an hour here we had the hike to finish and a final push back up over a ridge we arrived back at our vehicle to take us back to our hotel.
It took our group just under 3 hours to ascend and another 3 hours to descend the peak. A great day out in lovely weather with exceptional views.Written July 2, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can go there with car, but I suggest to use bicycle or walk.Written March 3, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bruuus V7 contributionsInteresting story about history.
Namely, when Turks took over this area, they destroyed Serbian Monastery ''Zagradje'' up the river at Scepan Polje, there was capital of Serbian medieval lord Herceg Stepan Kosaca (after him whole area was named Herzegovina). They took copper roof from Monastery and by wooden raft they transport it to city of Foca and built this Alaja Mosque. Mosque was nicer before Serbs destroyed it in last civil war in Yugoslavia. Now it is renewed and it is nice to visit.Written August 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The road initially is metalled but in quite a bad state of repair. We were glad of our 4x4 although we did see occasional saloon cars on our journey. To the fair the worst of the road is before you reach the ranger station about 20 minutes drive into this side of the park. Had to pay 5KM for the car but the park tickets we bought the previous day were still good to use. After this it is a gravel road in reasonably good condition. First stop on the way and 10km from the road end is Beskta. There is parking here and a short 100m path on the top right as you enter the car park will lead you a headland with teriffic views over the valley. Sadly the view was restricted on the day we visited due to poor visibility.Shortly after this you stop again by the side of the road and along a path to Dragos Sedlo which provides a sight across the valley of the Skakavac waterfall with its 70m drop.Views here seemed better on the day. There is also an excellent view of the Perucica Primeval Forest.
Last stop on the car journey is to Prijevor, 8 km further on. From the car park there are magnificent views but you can also walk down a well marked track for around 15 minutes which brings you to a tower. Climb up the steps for great 360 degree views. Some care needed when ascending the tower and at one point at the top there is an unguarded drop.
Our original plan had been to hike to Tmovacko but due to the weather conditions we decided to stay at Prijevor. Views again were restricted but the heavy cloud came and went giving brief glimpses of the spectacular views. From here we retraced our journey back to the main road.
We would recommend calling at the information point close to Restoran Nacionalne Kuhinje ‘Komlen’ to buy a map available for 5KM before travelling.Written September 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The water wasn't that wild anymore this time of the year but this way we had fun connecting with our fellow travellers and instructor. There wasn't any moment I felt unsafe! Perfect day out on the water, with brilliant views and a perfect organisation!Written October 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AFC710Sant Quirze del Valles, Spain4 contributionsWe had a wonderful time in the rafting center, we highly recommend it.
The bungalows are very nice, clean, spacious and with a great bathroom (we had the “lux” option). The food is excellent and healthy. People are very kind, flexible, and resourceful. The rafting was an excellent experience and seeing the canyon from the river was great. We also did a hike in Sutjeska National Park and the guide and the driver were amazing. We highly recommend staying there to do hikes.Written July 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zsolt N5 contributionsHighlander camp is positioned in the most beautiful part of Drina canyon, near Foča. All staff is very kind, the food is very tasty and the portions are large. The price is very resonable, and we have had an excellent weekend. Will be back in next Spring for sure!Written September 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
