- Małgosia SLeczyca, Poland530 contributionsThis is very dangerous beach. Cave and and cliffs are very beautiful. There was very windy but amazing. Views are incredible!Written November 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Karim MaaroufCairo, Egypt949 contributionsWe drove up here and parked close to the lighthouse. The views are quite incredible over the black sand beach and the bird colonies as well. It is very windy here, to the point that it can be difficult to move at times. But I found that added to the whole experience. I would recommend coming here.Written November 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Solutions123Austin, TX239 contributionsThis beach has sneaker waves which basically means it a strong undertow that will drag you into the ocean and hold you underwater. I grew up with waves and currents like this and was taught to never turn my back to the ocean. I also grew up with black sand beaches. I was taught to watch the waves and beach before entering especially with a beach that is unfamiliar.
The tide looked low this the day. We were able to walk to the edge of the beach without the water reaching us.
This beach was beautiful and magnificent. The ocean here is powerful. Does it ever calm down?
In November, wear your winter jacket, wind breaker and glasses. The wind makes it feel colder. When the wind picks up, the black sand will hit you in the face and eyes. It hurts.
It would be the one beach I recommend going to in Iceland.Written November 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can walk up to the glacier up to a certain point without safety gear. However to really experience it, I would definitely recommend a tour on the glacier. There are a few companies offering it. You get the necessary safety equipment and a guide who explains hoe the glacier is formed and other interesting information. Most importantly, you can walk directly on the ice of the glacier and enjoy the view from the top. You shouldn't miss the chance to do so.Written November 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jjlukeCalgary, Canada2,047 contributionsGreat glacier for a visit, a short hike to get there and plenty of sights to keep your attention. Many tour groups go by here too. Quick tips: The walk is about 15 minutes there to the viewing point. Fairly traversed pathway, paved parking and nothing complicated that requires hiking poles or anything. There was a food truck at the base when we visited. - Karim MaaroufCairo, Egypt949 contributionsThe crash site is close to Vik. However, it is quite far from the road. You can take a bus for around 20EUR to and from the site or you can hike for about 3 hours (both ways). I would recommend the former option, since there is nothing to see along the way. Another option is to take an ATV tour on the black sand beach which stops by this point. It is definitely a unique thing to see so you should consider coming here if you have time.Written November 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - product-of-canadaToronto, Canada2,492 contributionsThis church, with the coast as the backdrop, is used in many promotional photos in Iceland. You will visit it as part of many tours that do the South Coast day trip.
I was glad to have visited it from the outside. Some blue sky would have been nice for the photo, though.
Right in town, at the bottom of this hill where the church is, by the water, is a huge gift shop in addition to a grocery store. This was some of the best selection I've ever seen for souvenirs during our 1 week stay. Could not believe I could find a great toque for about $14 USD.Written September 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Makes sich a great photo stop. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't drive a regular car there. There are pot holes...just go slow. Drive to the second lot unless you want to hike.Written September 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jjlukeCalgary, Canada2,047 contributionsThe appeal of a cave shaped like Yoda is what gets people here. There are also flowers nearby which add a nice touch. The site is not as busy as others were, so it is worth it if you have 15-20 minutes to spare for a quick detour out there on the gravel road to the site.Written July 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jeremyd141London, UK17 contributionsIf you want to see unusual lava formations - basalt columns and black sand this is the place. Be careful of the waves - no swimming there!Written June 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Malgorzata12,083 contributionsThe statue, standing at 1.8m , is located on the edge of the Black Sand Beach. It was made by Icelandic sculptor Steinunn Thorarinsdottir who’s inspiration for the aluminium sculpture was the people who make their living at sea and the families who fear they will not return. This statue you can find in breathtaking and unique scenery. It’s just waiting to be explored when you visit Iceland.Written April 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tina88Cardiff, UK32 contributionsAmazing experience. We bought the Premier tickets so got to see behind the scenes and also got a small piece of lava.

First the zip lines are good, nothing super long or fancy if you have zip lined before, but the views are really cool and fun. You have to hike… and hike a little more to each zip line. At first we felt a little rushed but it started to slow down a little letting us enjoy the views.
The final zip line with the bungee was super cool and exciting. We felt safe and had great guides. We would recommend if you are in Vik.Written October 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
