Turned up 30 minutes before our tour started to get kitted out with an immersion suit, lifevest, gloves etc…and then onto our RIB with our RIB pilot and our guide.
A fast and fabulous trip out to the whale watching spots where we first encountered a few pods of dolphins who played with the RIB and gave us all some experiences of photos of a lifetime.
At the back half of the trip we came across 2 pairs of humpback whales who were just chilling in the shallow waters, going to the occasional dive and then showering us with whale blow as they came right upto the side of the RIB in all their glory.

We were lucky enough to spot a few whales & dolphins out in the bay. We were a bit worried when there was no one called "Happy Tours" (we booked through "Guide to Iceland") but by asking around at the dock, we found the Elding booth and got directed to our boat, the Saga. We had the full 15 people on board, and it was a lovely sunny day with very little wind.
We saw only a single puffin flying by, so I'm glad we weren't expecting more in that category.
We stopped at one location where I caught the only two fish (pollack) and then we moved to another spot. Immediately, every single person had a fish on the line. It was incredible! We fished for what felt like 2 hours in this location alone, catching a ton and keeping until we had enough to eat.
The gear was fine, some of the reels were what my fishing pro partner would call "crunchy" but the thing that made it exceptional was the staff, especially Oscar. He did all the dirty work of taking the fish off the line and moved so quickly that we were back in the water mere moments later. It was the perfect balance of physical exertion / ownership over your catch but also not actually needing any technical skill. He did say that the ~200 fish our group caught that day was very unusual - we had multiple times where more than one person caught two fish on the line as they were reeling it in!
Lunch on the way back, grilled fish and potato salad, was delicious, and we even got to keep some fish to bring back to our apartment to cook later (we just had to tell them in advance how much we wanted).

The yacht was great with a fabulous informative captain, the drinks in the bar were also very reasonably priced.
Great memories made on a trip we will never forget!

Hroomar was a fantastic guide and tried so hard to to get us onto some Char. We hooked 4 and landed 1 but it was great and the Holaa river was heavy with char and browns. He was so helpful and even dropped off my hat to the hotel after I left it in his car! - Shari m1 contributionIceland moments helped us plan how to use the time we had in Iceland to see as many of the beautiful sights as possible. Our guide/driver Andy was kind and so knowledgeable. He knew the best way to take our photos. The vehicle was spotless and comfortable.

I was fortunate enough to have two trips to Iceland this year and both spent with Gummi, Eiki and Gardar. He was everything you could hope for in a guide - knowledgeable, personable, accommodating, helpful, on time, and a careful driver. Wonderful variety of tours available, the agents are incredibly kind and always ready to help and offer assistance. Took care of everything from bus reservations and airport transfers to tour planning and even hotel booking. Quick response time and easy contact through email with a representative of theirs with whom I communicated with while planning and during the trip.
