This was an outstanding tour! The Godafoss waterfall was beautiful, but we especially enjoyed it because our guide, Jon told us the story of the heathen that threw his idols over the falls that gave the falls its name.
Jon grew up in the area and was able to share his knowledge of the area’s history and how the mud pools, steam vents and lava formations were formed. He took us to the Grjotagja cave where a scene from Game of Thrones was filmed and we hiked along the chasm where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates collide. During one of the stops, Jon encouraged us to try a sweet rye bread that is made in Iceland in pots buried in the warm soil. It was served with smoked trout and it was fabulous. (I’ll let Jon tell you why the smoked trout tastes so great.) We would definitely recommend this tour!
