- PBPGYorkshire, UK8,446 contributionsApparently this was an idea people in Akureyri stole from Belgium. All the red traffic lights are heart shaped. - PBPGYorkshire, UK8,446 contributionsThe Vadlaheidargöng Tunnel was completed in 2018 and replaces the original route one which was over the mountains, it cuts down the distance by about 10 miles but you have to pay a toll, about £10Written September 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PBPGYorkshire, UK8,446 contributionsGreat views over the fjord and Akureyri. There is also the entrance to the Vadlaheidargöng Tunnel a little further along. Only takes about 5 minutes to get here from the town centre, well worth the effort for, the views you getWritten September 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wesley CTucson, AZ10,285 contributionsHafnarstraeti is Akureyri's main shopping street. Colorful buildings give it a festive feel. I was there at night so most of the shops were closed. The bars and restaurants however were open and packed, especially those with outdoor patio. Very lively area.Written July 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- dbinhou7511Houston, TX1,639 contributionsThe Samkomburu Observation Deck provides a sheltered spot to watch the activity along the fjord. There is a walkway along Dottningarbraut leading from downtown and going out to the airport. Good bird watching along the fjord during the summer. If you don't like walking through town, take this walk.Written January 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
