It was a wonderful day and we enjoyed the entire tour, including the guide. Forget his name now, but he was very informative and had lots of interesting information to pass along throughout the entire tour… lots of good humour!!!

This was our third trip with the company in the past year. Yesterday we were on a small boat with Cheyenne as our guide; her infectious enthusiasm and love of the local wildlife shines through and hugely enhances the experience each time. We were so lucky in seeing two large groups of humpback whales, we were able to approach them quite closely while not unduly encroaching on their space, something which this company seems to understand. Cheyenne's commentary was helpful as ever and the boat clean and safe. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!

We were picked up from the ship at the port by an excellent guide that provided a great overview of the town, the history and explained the landscapes as we travelled by bus to Godafoss Waterfall (she also gave us clues to where to find a toilet that we didn't have to pay for!).
The waterfall was a short walk from the car/bus parking area. It was a beautiful day, so we got see rainbows in the waterfall as well.
It was a great photo opportunity and nearby is a large gift shop with a small cafe attached.
On the way back, we toured through the town of Akureyri, where we opted to get off the tour to walk through the Botanical gardens, back through town to the ship.
I would highly recommend this leisurely but very informative trip.

A very convenient and cheaper (than ship version) shore excursion. The bus pick-up area was a 1/2 block walk from the ship (since it wasn't a "official" shore excursion they can't park next to the dock. Our tour bus actually had people who bought two slightly different tours: our version and one where some people did a walking excursion of a lava field while we were at the natural baths- I recommend the baths! One word of caution: you have to rent a towel from the front desk when you arrive (it's not included in the ticket the tour company pays for). I will say that of the three natural baths we visited in Iceland, this was our least favorite; however, it was still relaxing and we're glad we went. The stop by the lake is the one that everyone says has ALOT of flies; we lucked out since it was cold. To be honest, the lake stop was my least favorite part of the tour; really not too much to see there on a 45 minute stop & the line for their bathrooms was LONG.

Driver was on time. He did his best to find the lights and explain the science behind them which was great. We saw the lights after the driver made an extra effort as the trip was about done when he spotted them over the water. We hightailed it to a bridge where the city lights were a little less intense. The Northern Lights were beautiful. My only gripe was that the driver wouldn’t put heat on in the van. Sure, we expect cold in Iceland when standing outside. Why no heat in the van is the big question.

Our small bus guide Vjeran was very efficient and excellent at taking us to extra magnificent places to see on top of our itinerary. Vjeran was kind and knowledgeable about all of the places we visited. Vjeran also knew the sweet spots on taking couples photos.

We started our trip before sunrise (this isn’t too early in Akureyri this time of year) and arrived at the first spot just as the sun came up.
We proceeded to stop at multiple destinations many our guide knew were still mostly untouched and we were the only ones there!

Along the way in our comfortable and clean vehicle- our guide Armand was INCREDIBLE. He is local to Akureyri and has expansive knowledge ranging from the geology of the ground you’re walking on, to amazing folklore stories.

The journey between stops was breathtaking in itself and the day will fly by as you will be absorbed in the landscapes you’re driving through. The trip can be as informative or as fun as you want to make it but if you’re thinking of doing any of the stops on this tour then BOOK THIS TRIP!!!

This tour was a great sample of Akureyri and our guide, Joanna, added special touches with Icelandic candies, etc. to taste along with good talks about icelandic life. We liked the waterfall better than Gullfoss on the Golden Circle tour and the Forest lagoon was great although more commercial than the Secret Lagoon we tried in Reykjavik. Joanna was willing to extend our tour to the city center for some shopping but we were all too relaxed after the baths.
We thought the bus was comfortable and the speaker system worked well for hearing our guide. There were lots to opportunities to grab snacks/food although we took our time exploring the sites and not eating until we returned to the cruise ship. Ten out of ten tour!

The whale watching experience was fantastic. We saw many whales (or mare likely a few whales many times) and had many good views. The seas were fairly calm, while also helped. The only reason for four stars was that the trip was handed off from the company we booked to another one based in Haughanes, and the hand-off wasn’t smooth, with the person picking us up having no record of our reservation. In spite of that, he took us, along with about 10 others, from Akureyri to Hauganes for the tour.

We visited Goðafoss, Dimmuborgir, Lake Myvatn with surroundings, the geothermal area, the nature baths and Grjótagjá. Our guide Siggi knows the area well and did a great job driving us to all the locations within the planned 6 hours while providing us with the history and background of the locations. Highly recommended!

Bad weather resulted in a port cancellation where we had a tour booked with The Traveling Viking. No tour. No Myvatin Nature Baths. No one’s fault but we are still disappointed.

What we are not disappointed about is reserving with Traveling Viking. They guaranteed a full refund if weather prevented us from showing up and they delivered. It took some time but it showed up!

We missed 3 of 5 ports on this cruise. All weather related. Some passengers who booked off ship tours did not use companies that provided refunds. Do not take that risk. Use TTV.

First off, i would definitely recommend dressing warm, and having something the covers/blocks wind up past your nose. We did and it was a lifesaver in the October cold.
Secondly, i HIGHLY recommend this tour! It was a unique experience and we got to see many whales! The guides/boat captain were knowledgeable and pleseant.

What a fablous tour. Very well organised. The guide Bruner was outstanding with a vast knowledge about Akureyri and Iceland. Was simply a treat for us. The buses were easy to locate and comfortable. Good time was given at each spot. Communication for booking the tours was very prompt. We used them for our other ports too… totally worth it and impressed!
