Always fun, perfect for new riders and well worth the trip, lots to learn about these great Icelandic horses and their five styles of gait, including and especially the unique Tolt! Warmly recommended!
Our guide, Kirsten, from Denmark, was great at managing all of us, showing everyone how to ride and guide our ponies (each of whom have a definite personality, which makes it so much fun).

Viking Horses

Reykjavik
We were collected promptly at our hotel in Reykjavik, driven to the stables and home of the owner, given gear for the possible inclement weather and treated to a delightful ride across lava fields and forest terrain.
After a test ride around the paddock we were off on a 1.5hour trek through amazing Icelandic countryside - over bridges, through tunnels, across lava fields and rocky meadows.
Our guide Martina was a pure joy to spend the day with, full of tips for riding, demonstrating and coaching the unique Tolt gait, insight into the region, and the beautiful landscapes, as well as life among horses...
... hour trip with these guys and enjoyed every moment, even when it was raining:) Our guide was very professional and told us a lot about the Icelandic horses, the horses were fun to ride, and the scenery was great.

Nupshestar

Selfoss
Beautiful horses, a kind and very helpful guide, amazing landscapes along the river Þjórsá - Nupshestar really is the perfect place to try icelandic horse riding, whether you're a beginner or an experienced rider.
... the ride as enjoyable as possible for both of us! Best way to see Iceland!! Had a really good experience from when we came to the farm to when we left, they we're very lovely and welcoming, can highly recommend!
It far exceeded my expectations: beautiful clean barn, gorgeous well-behaved horses, professional and friendly staff, unbelievable trail through the most gorgeous scenery you can imagine.
The route itself was beautiful, following a river near the volcano Hekla, and riding back to the stable via sheep and horse fields. We crossed a few rivers, and enjoyed long stretches of tölt.

My wife and I had a fabulous two-hour ride through Iceland’s wildly varying terrain — farm, forest, a small river, lava field — with a wonderful guide, Sabine, who told us about the horses and the country along th...
We are pretty much beginners but all agreed this was our best ever ride of about 6-10 others around the world - lovely guides, fantastic horses and of course fantastic north east Iceland.
We had 2 beautiful, spirited Icelandic horses, a happy 20 year old German student on summer vacation as our guide, spectacular views, and delicious home baked cakes with our hot chocolate or coffee when we returned.
But they still made it happen!!!!!!!!! Carol our guide was amazing!! It’s so great to connect with Stefan and his family history and story was great on how this farm came about!
After a very warm welcome and a detailled introduction (including grooming and petting the horses which are in a very good shape) we had a wonderful tour with lots of information in varied landscapes with three gu...

Our guides gave us a lovely tour around the farm, and after checking with all the riders, we were able to go a little faster beyond a walk, and try out some of the horses special gaits.
After a great ride through the woods and fields, with some great views of the fjord, we returned to the guesthouse for home-baked brownies and great coffee.

... was good at doing the Tolt - an amazing fast, four strike gait that is like flying, so comfortable, you just sit tight and wiggle side to side!!! Icelandic horses have a mutated gene which allows them to do this!
Hillary was excellent and very patient with us being first timers and explained all the dos and donts and took us on this amazing ride on the black beaches on Vik.

Family owned, we rode over rivers, meadows, to cliffs, and fields filled with blue lupins and other wildflowers Helmets, boots, and rain gear provided.
You then wander as a group through the AMAIAZING Icelandic scenery, which almost seems unreal then part way through the tour you get the chance to visit a beautiful hidden waterfall!

The glacier walk was excellent!! Rowan was friendly and knowledgeable, and provided a much more personalized experience than the other larger tour operators could.
We met early at the Heli terminal and from there we flew over the glaciers to a beautiful ice cave.

Bakkahestar

Eyrarbakki
The staff was friendly and attentive and allowed the horses a little more freedom (while always in control) so that we could experience several of the gaits used by the fine Icelandic horses.
We had an absolutely wonderful time, both the experienced riders in our group and also the beginners - everyone had a great ride.
We are both beginners (and I am scared of horses too...) and the staff really did a great job pairing us with suitable horses and making sure we were comfortable and at ease.
Best gallop and tölt experience in a magic environment between the beach and colored Icelandic hills on great Icelandic horses.
All the wet weather gear and boots are provided and they have sizes from small to extra extra large.
They let the more comfortable riders go ahead on the second half of the ride and practice the fait famous to the Icelandic horse, the Tölt.
The proprietress , my guide, the horses, and the cats were simply perfect and I send them my love and gratitude for giving me memories I will always cherish.
Horse riding is very pleasant, people are very friendly and give clear instructions, so even if you are a complete rookie you will be able to ride the horse :) riding among lava fields feels like a weird western s...

Beautiful scenery and our two horses “Breki and Tyr” were so smooth and comfortable, definitely worth our while !
The owner Magnus, who is very kind and knows his beautiful horses inside out will pair you with the perfect horse for your skill level and is supportive and so much fun throughout the ride.
The stable is a beautiful 45ish minute drive south of Reykjavik and it is in a cluster of other stables and barns - turn right at the main driveway and I bet Magnus will be there, waiting to greet you with a smile!
Thanks a lot to the owner from the stable for the great roundtrip through the stable

Skalakot

Hvolsvollur
One guide (Thor) for two of us who was friendly and knowledgable about the horse and gave us a real insight into the paces of the beautiful and characterful Icelandic horses.
A great field that is very dark for photographers trying to do star photography or shoot the northern lights, the hotel offers a "Northern Lights Wakeup Call" which I really appreciated.
Elena was happy to chat with us about all the different gaits of the Icelandic horses and led us on a beautiful ride in the countryside, just a few minutes from Akureyri.
Lovely ride alongside a shallow river, mainly all at the walk, though braver riders can try the TOLT which is a natural pacing trot which you sit to and is surprisingly comfortable.

Saltvik

Husavik
I own 2 Icelandic horses and it has always been a dream of mine to ride the Icelandic horses in their native country of Iceland.
The scenery , the riding, the freedom we had to go at a faster pace was AMAZING!
An absolute dream came true! Lovely horses and super kind and friendly guides made an unforgettable adventure in Iceland.
They were able to take us on a private ride with two guides so that our less experienced rider had some extra attention when we galloped along their well groomed trails.
