- Saul V1 contributionSuomenlinna is a fascinating historical site just a short ferry ride from Helsinki, and it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.Written February 2, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ZenDark30Portland, OR5,119 contributionsGobs of eateries crammed into this old building down on the waterfront. Plenty of options for seafood, sweets, packaged reindeer jerky and moreWritten January 18, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jw6969Ascot, UK3,132 contributionsWhat a very interesting building! I didn’t particularly like it, but there’s no doubt that it is an architecturally clever design. There was a modest entry fee and I’m glad we took a look. If visiting Helsinki I’d say it is a “must see”.Written January 3, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - An Average ReviewerSingapore, Singapore95 contributionsThe iconic place where they filmed the Darude Sandstorm music video.
A lot of steps to climb to reach the cathedral. There is an entry fee for this church.
Simple yet striking architecture..
A part of the building was undergoing restoration. There was an installation of a huge globe in the middle of the church when I was there. We were allowed to access to the 2nd level in the church.Written November 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great for sunny days in both summer and winter. If the ice is strong enough walking around the island on a sunny day of early March is magical.Written August 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CraigH0901Adelaide, Australia1,356 contributionsVisited on St Stephen’s Day while there was a service going on. Managed to get a view inside from a doorway - very ornate but not over the top. The exterior is beautiful and you can walk around and take a bunch of pictures. Easily accessible from the tram stop and no entrance fee.Written December 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CelestescheepersLidingo, Sweden22 contributionsHelsinki was as charming as always- all the festive christmas lights everywhere.. The Julmarket had finished the previous day, but everything else was still there. Oodi Labrary is something else , you can spend hours just lazing there ( and eat and go to ghe toilet) in the nice open warm spaces. Helsinki Museum is also eorth dome time. And then - always arrange a Free Walking Tour, where you tip the guide accordingly. You always learn something new and discover hidden gems through thrm.
And last but not least, do an sauna and swim right there almost in town, next to the quay.Written January 7, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Having been to Champs-Elysees in Paris, there really is no comparison. But it's a beautiful park in the middle of a beautiful city. A most enjoyable stroll (or thoroughfare, depending on where you're headed!)Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anne Irene NOslo, Norway119 contributionsExcellent tram network; clean and comfortable.
Download the HSL-app before arriving in Helsinki; buy the ABC card for the number of fays of your stay to enjoy worry-free (train) travel from the airport all the way into the city center, and thereafter use of trams, busses, the Metro and even the ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress.Written November 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It might be too quiet for those used to the bustling of the city but a nice place to escape if you need a temporary moment of silence.
There is no entry fee in October so do check out this place if you are around this area.Written November 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Rajesh K KBengaluru, India1,880 contributionsTook the Silja Serenade cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Cruise commenced at 5 pm and reached Stockholm at 10 am local time the next day - exactly on time! Boarding/disembarking was a bit of a mess - everyone was waiting to get on or off, so some rush. Also, the escalator in Helsinki stopped working for a while and the only lift was packed!
We entered the ship on Level 7 - The Promenade. There were staff to help guide us to our respective floors/decks. We had booked A-Class cabins, which were on Level 10. Sufficient lifts inside the ship. The cabins were tiny but had sea-facing windows. The bathroom was also tiny, especially the shower. There are no amenities other than soap from wall dispensers. Decent internet within the cabins. There was some civil work happening on the deck above, which they stopped only at 7 pm and again started at 9 the next morning. This was disturbing - why can't they do this work when no passengers are on board? The rooms were simple - 2 foldable beds, sheets, and a thin good-for-nothing pillow. Water from the tap only.
The rest of the ship was pretty amazing! The top deck, 12, offered excellent views and pictures. Rather windy though! It also had a bar, if one fancied a drink. Level 7, the Promenade, was where all the bars/restaurants/shops were. Plenty of them! The ship also had a duty-free store on Level 6 with a great selection. Also, a casino and some live shows.
I was a bit apprehensive of motion sickness, but there was next to no motion at all! Pretty smooth sailing! The ship was well-maintained. There was a Grande Buffet hall on Level 6, for dinner and breakfast. Good options but rather crowded. Free, unlimited beer and wine. I had the beer, which was just so-so. Food was good.
All in all, a pleasant cruise.Written September 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was a little market going on with really nice items and some sort of military band.Written December 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
