We visited Visby on our Scandinavian cruise. We took the tour on the small train that goes throughout the city and provides an excellent history of Visby. Visby played a major part in the early days of shipping due to its location. There are many stories of battles that took place in Visby. The wall is still in wonderful shape in most places. It's hard to believe that something like that could be built by hand.

This is the botanical gardens for the town, a bit outside the old town. A definite must-do on a summer day for those who like to view landscaping and plants. Maybe bring a picnic?

Very nice museum that provides a good explanation of Gotland's history with well-created displays and lots of artifacts. Understanding the role of Visby in medieval trading provided me with a better sense of the importance of the city to Sweden, Denmark and other world players at the time. There are artifact placards provided in English so you can do the tour at your own pace. We spent about two hours there and that seemed about right to see everything. The museum is in the heart of old Visby and there are great cafes located nearby and one in the museum itself. We chose one that was a couple of blocks away that was more quaint.

A nice place. We went there and enjoyed our packed lunches watching the sea and just enjoying ourselves.

This is a nice rauk field. During high season the parking can be full but cars comes and goes all the time so you will get your spot.
Our kids love to play Hide and seek or Catch in the Junipers tree just next to the rauk field (and parking lot).

We went here twice during our one week stay on Gotland. Especially when there is more sun the water gets the special turquoise color. You can either sit at the lake and watch the water (when it is not too windy), walk around the lake or swim. The water is quite cool (around 17 degrees Celsius) but great for a refreshing swim. It gets deep very quickly. We recommended combine it with the visit of Fårö.

This is the big church in town. It has a medieval foundation, lots of old burial spots. I was most impressed with the many big chandeliers. A big modern organ as well. Some pretty decorations.

I don't know how other visitors have been got there, but I went there directly from the port of Visby. Since Bolt does not inhabit this island yet, then Uber costs were approx. 20 euros for one trip. Since my wife paid, I think it's a fair price.

The amusement park is relatively large and has its fair share of attractions, but unfortunately they are relatively boring for children aged 6+ and even for a parent who has smuggled in a few beers. Many of the attractions are self-service and there are no teenage summer workers watching or guiding them, which is strange in a country like Sweden.

Luckily the weather was beautiful and the water world saved the day. Although the changing rooms and showers were not clean and smelled too extreme even for hard core Eastern Europeans, the water park itself was first class with its slides and attractions. There are slides for both young and old, beginners and advanced. The water in the outdoor pools is not heated (except perhaps the pool by the sunbathing area), so on a cold day you only have to rely on the warmth of your heart. There is also a pizzeria on site, where I didn't eat because of the long queue. I had there only a warm tea after a chilly day, which surprisingly was free. So a definite extra star, because free stuff is always worth an extra star.

All in all, I would definitely go back on a warm day and recommend it even to others.

On Fårö you can always find something to do. Visit a rauk field, beaches, bakery, museum, pottery, nature reserve or restaurant (+ many more things).
My top spots are: Norsta Auren beach, Digershuvud rauk field and Kutens bensin restaurant.

We went on a day with sun and clouds with some threat of rain and spent a couple of hours on the beautiful beach and swimming in the ocean. There is a simple café on the beach with Covid-measures for the line and you can borrow umbrellas to shade from the sun. The sand is great and the water is shallow far out from the shore. A great place for kids. We had no trouble parking but maybe it’s more difficult on a purely sunny day. What would have made it even better would have been a place to wash your feet from all the sand up by the car-park.
