- Mikael FHelsinki, Finland23,629 contributionsThe Royal Library in Copenhagen is the national library of Denmark and the university library of the University of Copenhagen. It is among the largest libraries in the world.
The library was founded in 1648 by King Frederik III, who contributed a comprehensive collection of European works.
The library is located in two buildings. It was interesting to see how seamlessly a modern building is attached to an old one. Three bridges connect the new building with the old part.
The old building was built in 1906. The impressive central hall is a copy of Charlemagne's Palace chapel in the Aachen Cathedral.
A new building known as the Black Diamond was completed in 1999 adjacent to the old one. This building is named for its exterior of black marble and glass. The exterior wall of the stunning atrium is made of glass. While using the escalator, you have panoramic sea views.Written November 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - George NThe Hague, The Netherlands136 contributionsThe staff at this service is very friendly and helpful and provides willingly information and maps. - margoCopenhagen, Denmark44 contributionsThe central library is cosy and modern. You can also buy something in a coffeehouse next to the entrance. However they didn’t have some of the books that I was looking for.Written September 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- StephenDenmark329 contributionsIt's difficult to find the reception, but anyway then you, at the same time, know where to enjoy the breakfast. Same location! The room was different but smart and include beds to have a small family (4 pax) enjoy time together.
Bowling have to be booked upfront and a small fee for renting shoes has to payed, but it's free to play as long as you have booked a room.Written March 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - LA23Gretna, LA40 contributionsThoroughly enjoyed our stay in Copenhagen, especially here in the old Meat Packing District. We ate lunch here, visited some of the shops, and enjoyed the views, food options, and the people watching!Written March 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- John jCamberwell, Australia352 contributionsWhile visiting the information centre you must take advantage of buying pastries at the coffee shop inside the front door
This coffee shop has the best selection of Danish pastries that we were able to find in Copenhagen.
Only downside is that coffee is served in disposable cups! Buy the pastries and take away to Statement for the coffee!
Staff at the centre were most helpful - and we bought the keys for the hop-on hop-off Grayline bus here alsoWritten September 15, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Jan A.17 contributionsIt is a good conference hotel. Breakfast and dinner is okay, but not special. Rooms are good in the main building. When you end up in the satellite building, you have bad luck. Those rooms are not good. If you would like to have a drink in the bar, it can take some time. Staff is running around in the restaurant and when you see them when sitting on your bar stool, wave en shout so you can get your drink. The service in the bar seems not have the highest priority when it is quiet there.Written January 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
