Prior to going to Thassos , I contacted the horse club by email to ask several questions, all which were answered quickly by return.
When we arrived, we went along to book & left a deposit. We had a mixed party of 5, some experienced riders and 2 non riders and we were all allowed to ride together.
We arrived early and was warmly welcomed by a kind gentleman, who offered us coffee, and gave us a huge plate of melon to share while waiting.
We were taken to meet our horses - various sizes.
We mounted with help and were led by a lovely young lady.
We had booked for 1 hours hack - 20 euros each, we went all through the country side, along pathways and some rough ground, we didnt expect to go to the beach - but we did and rode along the sand. We also rode along the road ( a little un-nerving for the non riders amongst us!)
Some of the horses (mine especially) had a mind of her own - or maybe it was my lack of experience! I was told that I had been given the moody mare - who didn't like any of the other horses behind her or near her, so this did make me nervous.
After a little while I was quite uncomfortable with leg cramp and I became aware one stirrup was higher than the other - I wished that more care had been made to ensure we were all comfortable before we left, especailly the non riders.
Saying this - we did all have a lovely time and a first experience of 2 of us.
The young lady leading us was caring & experienced, and had a beautiful accent - and some things she said made us all laugh - "If the horse do a shitttt..... please do tell me!"
You will need covered shoes, like plimsols - not flipflops, lightweight clothing - with some leg covering and some suncream.
