- sueevieNorth Yorkshire, UK4,395 contributionsEasy to find, park or a 10 minute walk from Agios Isidoros.
No need to book and the whole experience is free.
Warm welcome from staff and I was given a 1:1 tour of the distillery. Incredibly knowledgeable staff and also willing to chat and highlight some of the must visit areas of this beautiful part of the island.
Tasting offered at the end of the tour and no pressure to buy.

It is an amazing collection of works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Leger, Braque and more accumulated by the the publisher and editor of Verve the iconic art magazine.Written August 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Barrovian134Shifnal, UK36 contributionsI'll start by saying that I have no interest in Paleontology or Geology. My wife wanted to visit the Petrified Forest Park so that's where we went. The entry fee is €5 each, which also gets you entry to the Natural History Museum. The park has some different walks, but be advised there is little or no cover so choose your time carefully. If you like petrified tree remains then this is for you. Then onto the Narural History Museum in Sigri. Let's start with the staff, who were pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The exhibits, videos and information were first class and thought provoking even to someone like me. An excellent Museum and highly recommended.Written September 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Joan CReserve, NM858 contributionsOutstanding collection of original pieces by Theophilos. History and biography of the artist in both English and Greek. The paintings are simply wonderful, bright, evocative, and depicting life on Lesvos. Many of the paintings also reflect scenes from Theophilos' travels as a young man. A testament to being your own self and finding your inner vision. This place is tucked away in an olive grove next to the Theriades museum and is a wonderful spot for a picnic if you are so inclined.Written July 30, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul HBoca Raton, FL90 contributionsThis amazing museum has been fully restored to it's original condition. Walking through the museum gives you a full understanding of the entire process in making olive oil. There is a small store where you can purchase award winning oils from Lesbos as well as a small tasting area, The staff are extremely helpful and have a wealth of information about the production of olive oil. This is a must see attraction on this beautiful island.Written December 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I telephoned first as it is not the busy season yet and there are only two of us. Katerina said this was no problem at all and when we got there she showed us around, explained the whole olive oil production simply and in an interesting way. Then we got to do a tasting in the beautiful tasting room. The whole experience was an absolute delight. We would recommend Protoulis to anyone interested in olive oil and one of Greece’s famous industries. Protoulis olive oil is a premium product that we were privileged to experience.Written May 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AllieWorld24 contributionsIt is a small but interesting museum, but at least half the cards are either missing or in Greek only. That was fine for me as I read and speak Greek, but it may be more confusing for non-Greek speakers.
There is a sign for audio guides on some cards but I wasn't offered any. Hopefully these give more explanations to non-Greek speakersWritten August 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Having seen all of them, this is the one closest to the capital of the island, Mytilene and maybe it provides the most concrete picture of the old era of OUZO. There are also some artsy ouzo souvenirs available.Written April 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JohannaKarolinaGlasgow, UK1 contributionWe visited on a Sunday. The museum is easy to find on the main square of the village and although it was closed, there are plenty of signs with a phone number to call and they will open it for you. We waited 5 min and were then let in. We were first invited to see a 10/15min long video of Georgios Jakobides' life and art (subtitled in your language of choice), and then we were given audio guides for the exhibition itself, which is also very well explained throughout in English and Greek.
I knew nothing of this artist before the visit but loved his paintings (which are displayed as back-lit reproductions) and the thematically organised exhibition. Also my less art interested partner enjoyed it very much!
In Chidira (Hidira or Xidera) we had a coffee at one of the traditional cafes, using google translate to order as English was not an option! The church next to the museum also invite people to call a number and it will be opened, but we did not try this. Otherwise, cats.Written July 13, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
