You will need an hour at the most. It would be nice to combine it with a dip in the ocean and lunch at the beach that is only 3-minute walk away.

One of the best sunsets I’ve seen by far. I experienced the beautiful sunsets and sunrises from the balcony of my accommodation, so I didn’t experience the chaos of tourists trying to watch the sunset. But when I looked up, the entire main street area was packed with people.

We drove our car pretty far up which we didn’t know we could do. Parked by the round about area then hiked up. It was very windy but it was worth the beautiful views. It was about a 30 min hike. The stairs up are steep but after that its easier. The monuments are not as large as I was expecting but it was still nice to see. I would bring a jacket for cooler mornings or evenings not in peak summer.

Yes 100% you will wait unless it late at night. That being said who doesn’t want their picture taken on the google image of Santorini? Their is a reason for the line and why every gift shop and attest uses this image to sell product. We did it and waiting for 15-20 min max it was hot but small price to pay

With a beautiful interior and standing proud, and highly-colured, on the Fira skyline, the Cathedral of St John the Baptist is another location that should not be missed if you are in Fira. In my opinion, not quite as magnificent as the Cathedral Church of Candlemas of the Lord, it is a very close second.

This village is a bit off the beaten track in Santorini where people tend to stick to the beaches and the Caldera but is definitely worth a visit.
    It is charming and authentic!

Maybe its because a 5000 pax cruise ship pulled into the caldera today but the crowd was over the top tonight for sunset. Must have been several hundred cars, plus quads and motorbikes by the dozen, We left a bit before sunset to avoid the inevitable traffic jam. Super windy and cold too so if you go bring a blanket.

The sun sets over the water, not behind the islands, so its really not the best viewpoint for sunsets. Much better and way less crowded, plus closer to town, is the parking lot at the top of the road leading down the hill to Athoni port.

Easy to get to as long (as you don’t mind the crowds). Old Ruins of a castle, free, beautiful views at the tip of Oia. Worth a visit.

Imposing, both inside and outside, this is certainly one building worth visiting in Fira. However, try and go as early as you can (and as soon as it is open) because, once the day tourists start arriving from the cruise ships moored in the harbour, you will find yourself being jostled from pillar to post as they all try to find that perfect selfie.

Just a 5 minute walk from our accommodation. Cute, small town with the picturesque white buildings and blue domes Oia is known for. Lots of restaurants and souvenir shops to explore and you are surrounded by the breathtaking views of the caldera all around you.

Worth a visit. Go correctly dressed and respect the rules - no photos inside. A good place to think in silence and take a break from the hot summer sun. Bus stop directly outside.

Now located in the main square of Oia, which is the meeting place for tour groups, the church of Paangia Platsani is well worth a quick look. The church was destroyed in the earthquake which occurred in July 1956 and, as its original position was unstable, it was rebuilt in its present, new, position. It is probably the most famous church in Oia.

The castle ruins are at the top of the town, and are really a view site with a lot of broken walls. the church at the top was closed when we visited and we ended up having a cooldrink in the restaurant at the top and taking some pictures. The castle ruins can be accessed from two directions, the back way (Google maps takes you to this route) which is not advised and by walking up through the charming alleys with shops on the way.

Our accommodation was just a two minute walk from the karavolades steps. When we initially started walking down to Amoudi Bay, we did not know what these steps were. But we came to find out, it was quite a hike down and up these steps. There were over ~300 steep, slippery steps. The strong smell of donkey poop can be quite overwhelming at times. Just be careful walking down these steps.
