What travelers are saying
- BougiebougiersonMelbourne, Victoria2,350 contributionsYou cannot come to Athens and not visit the Acropolis.
We had booked tickets for the last timeslot of 7pm-8pm to avoid the intense heat. You definitely need to wear shoes with good tread as the steps and paths are marble and are slippery.
The ancient relics are breathtaking. And the views overlooking Athens was amazing.Written November 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - raybyerleyMandeville, LA4,685 contributionsSince our flights were about 4 hours late and then waited for our hotel room to be ready at the Grande Bretagne, we got a late start on our self guided walking tour of the area, but it was a very pleasant and interesting walk including stops at the:
-Metropolitan Cathedral, little Metropolitan right next door, Hadrian’s Library, the Roman market and various other spots including dinner(see my other reviews).Written October 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Just take your time and enjoy the views on the way up. I think this is much better than taking the funicular. There is also a greater feeling of satisfaction. The view of the Parthenon on the way is magnificent.Written October 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelTrips12Sydney, Australia412 contributionsClearly, the people managing this temple have put a lot of effort and work into maintaining this incredible structure. The details have been kept so well, and there is so much information made available so you can further appreciate the significance of this temple.
The people of Athens can be proud of this display in their city.Written October 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So many ruins in one spot, plus the rebuilt main hall makes this an impressive must see if visiting Athens.Written November 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Olga Porterfield35 contributionsThis a gorgeous "village" under the Acropolis which was build by the stonemasons and carpenters from the islands who had worked in restorations of the Acropolis temples. They created a mini island village in the middle of the bustling capital.
A pure delight.Written October 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gaye NPerth, UK514 contributionsWell worth the climb. We went up through the trees and not path set out, a bit scrambling needed but worth it for views every time we stopped to catch our breath. We made it to the monument. Views from here at a 360o degree angle cannot be beaten no other view of the Acropolis and all other the city can beat it. Wander back down proper path and you will find the Pnyx and Socrates prison. A highlight of our trip to be up here.Written October 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Thomas VOakland, CA18,233 contributionsThis is a good neighborhood for those who like to explore outside the typical tourist areas. There are no big visitor sites here, just a pleasant neighborhood where people live their lives. You can walk here from the Plaka, so it is central. Lots of good restaurants and cafes. A taste of real life.Written March 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Thomas VOakland, CA18,233 contributionsThis ancient street takes you through part of the Plaka and past some sites of ruins. - John A CarterLower Sackville, Canada5,629 contributionsVery simple construction, but quit beautiful .
You need to climb up to the top of the hill but if you take the cable car for 12 euros it’s well worth it. There is a water closet nearby.Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Above is a bar to drink something and also a restaurant. The place is worth a visitWritten October 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - I visited this place🇺🇸🇫🇷🇬🇷🇨🇭🇬🇧Israel35,862 contributionsPROS
* Impressive foyer/grand entranceway to the Acropolis
* Significant archaeological ancient sculptures and (remnants of) buildings
* Stunning views of Athens
CONS
* Many steep high steps
* Slippery surface
* Narrow and quite crowded
“I VISITED THIS PLACE”..,
… when I climbed the hill to enter and visit the Acropolis. I was certainly impressed with this entrance area and marveled at the architecture and archaeological remains. I enjoyed the view of the city. I was taken aback but the steepness of the large slippery stones and of the massive crowds climbing, descending and lingering (see my many “helpful” 👍 photos 📷).
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Yes- it is part of the Acropolis visit, which was €10
WOULD “I VISIT THIS PLACE” AGAIN?
Sure, and I’d like to, now that I know more about it

We did not find original paintings on the spot and spent some time to find something adequate online. Finally, we found the right theme at Canvas Greece. Order and payment went smoothly, we even were able to agree on a date of delivery. We are happy with the prints and frames. They even have hangers. We'll put them on the wall soon.Written October 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
