Great to walk across at both upper and lower levels. The view from the upper level is lovely but the climb up to it is tough. Best thing, it's free

Arguably one of the most beautiful train station in Portugal. Not only the tiles in the main hall, even the train platform is beautiful. Excellent for photos.

I never wanted to leave. I could live here. There is magic and music around every turn. Definately walk into the town of Porto. Don't miss Foresta Cafe. Definately cross the bridge on the top level and listen to music in the park, looking down on the river. Just walk and discover and keep walking and discovering. We can not wait to come back!

Cais de Ribeira is the area of Porto located by the river. It's a touristy place, but it's worth taking a stroll. It's full of bars and restaurants, as well as people performing street acts. The views of the river or the Luís I Bridge are spectacular.

It ended up raining, so we were really glad to be seated under the overhang. Game was amazing and they gave out noisemakers and flags to the fans.

The Capela das Almas is a small church in the heart of Porto. The facade is spectacular, featuring a religious mural with blue tones. It's one of the typical views of Porto, and it's worth passing by to enjoy it.

We actually stumbled upon this place, thinking we were visiting fresh food market, as it is actually a posh, food court/hall, which was a pleasant surprise.

The interior is stunning and very inviting, we loved just walking around taking it all in, it will be interesting to see if the other Mercado's are like this one.

We decided to eat at Daterra as it was excellent value at 10.50 for lunch, the food was tasty, and the dishes numerous, being a buffet we had our fill.

All in all a wonderful experience.

We decided to just visit the park and not the museum, so I can't comment on the indoor displays, but we did enjoy the gardens. They are large, and undulating, but much is in the shade which was great for a very hot day. There is a rather charming grotto built around a pond with a huge number of frogs in it, some croaking noisily. The farm was peaceful and we enjoyed spotting egrets there. Some of the gardens are rather neglected, but there are signs to say that they are being rejuvenated - it must be a difficult job on very dry soil. There were some excellent information boards which gave the history of the place and were worth reading. We were disappointed that the tea garden was closed, as we were unsure that we could access the restaurant - there was nothing at the entrance or on the website that we could see to explain this. Ticketing could be far better explained - it's not clear what you are getting for your money, although to be fair I heard the counter assistants trying to help. Unfortunately that makes for longer queues than are necessary.

Be aware that there are major roadworks going on in the area to improve the transport system - it will be good when they are finished, but we had decided to walk up from the Metro and it made the walk dusty and tedious.

The Rua Santa Catarina is a pedestrian street going through the center of Porto for 1500 meters. At one end is the Batalha Square and it continues in front of the Chapel of Souls to continue to the famous Majestic Café and beyond.

You will find all the usual brands you can find in any city in Europe now; but you can also take a peek view down the side streets with small vintage shops or survivors of another age like the local butcher or bakery.

Or you can take a look upwards and admire the decorated facades of the buildings. It makes for a nice stroll when the weather is fine!

I was excited to visit this market but honestly, I was a little disappointed from the offerings. Most of the stalls sell the same things – olive oil, produce, cheese, salted cod, and a few stands selling ‘fresh’ seafood. I guess I thought there would be more eats around but the eats that were available looked like they had been sitting out all day. My advice? Come to talk a loop around to just check it out but if you want a snack/food, head across the street to Confeitaria de Bolhao.

By accident, we were forced to stay for 3 days in Matosinhos surrounded by grey concrete buildings. If you are a nature lover, Matosinhos can be quite depressing, sorry to say.

Luckily, we took a walk along the coast - direction: Porto - and suddenly this green oasis popped up. Lush green lawns, small lakes, wild birds, locals running or walking their dogs.

The park is among the 3 prettiest places in Matosinhos. The beach is the other. Can you mention a third?

This beautiful square is quite brilliant and sits in the centre of Porto. Despite nearby construction it is still a magnificent location

The Jardins do Palácio de Cristal are a park in Porto. They're not very large, but it's a pleasant area for a stroll. It has some areas with different plants and roaming peacocks.
