But I think what made the diference was Carmo our amazing tour guide, she was givings us all the details along the way. From the views and from the food it was amazing. The lunch includes veggie options as well as Bacalhau if you would like to try the typical meals from the area. We also loved learning about the culture and the history of the area. Day of are boat ride was rainy and they kept us informed and even let us reschedule for a later time in day when weather was to be better. The Port Wine served was very good. Porto shines best in the sunshine and so on the grey day we had, it was quite dull. Photos were dull and uninteresting, the only thing that stood out was the shocking amount of graffitti on just about every old structure along the river.

Even if we didn’t have that experience it would have been amazing. Interesting and genuine staff. Beautiful and comfortable boat.

Him and his team were perfect; they were professional, lighthearted, and very considerate. The itinerary was laid out for us on the GetYourGuide app but Ivo was nice enough to explain it again on our drive to the Douro Valley. The bus ride was smooth and comfortable, so thank you to the bus driver! Music was also on point (solid road trip songs!) Thank you Ivo and the team for making this trip memorable. - M PKingston, Canada5 contributionsJoao Jesus was the host for this tour of the Douro Valley. There were 5 of us in this group; my wife, my adult son and daughter and her husband. We were hopeful for this tour, as previous reviews for both the tour and Joao were uniformly incredibly good. Joao picked us up on time in an exceptionally comfortable vehicle. He immediately put us at ease and we were off for one of the best days adventure we have ever experienced. This was the best way to see the Douro Valley - everything from our first coffee stop to our first wine/port tour at Sandeman, perfect lunch at a traditionally local restaurant owned by an amigo of Arnold Schwarzenegger, boat tour from Palhao to the second tour at D’Origem with one of the most stunning views of the precious Douro. It was the perfect way to see the river and learn of its importance and history. Joao made it happen with intelligence, knowledge, enthusiasm, kindness, pride in his country and patience. He was helpful in every way, even providing suggestions for activities and food of interest in and around Porto after he dropped us back at our home base.
