Our tour guide Ivo was amazing - he picked us up at our apartment, and along with the other guests - an american family and a german couple, we headed to the Douro Valley in a very comfortable van.He started by first explaining the itinerary & how the day was planned. On our way to the valley he spoke of the the process of Porto Wine Making, the History of the region and about the land ( terroir), Everything a wine enthusiast would want to know!
We stopped for coffee and then we started the tour with a river cruise for an hour seeing the vineyards from another perspective, as the weather was acting up.
Then we went to our first "Quinta"- Croft, a beautiful place where we tasted LBV, Tawny and Rose and learned about the wine process.
The final stop was at a Quinta high in the valley where we drank wine, tasted olive oil and had an outdoor lunch under amazing walnut trees. We also learned how to distinguish the taste and visually recognize the aged porto wine.
I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in Port, Porto & Portugal.
