As with most reviews the views are spectacular. The statue is well worth a visit. We walked from Canico de Baixo which was challenging but was worth it. The walk back was easier as it’s more downhill.

Situated just outside the tourist trail of the old town, it sits high, perched above the fort.
The blue tiling on either side of the altar is quite unusual and the painted ceiling is stunning
We were fortunate to see it set out for an afternoon wedding.

We just passed by and decided to pop in for a minute or two. It is an attractive, if quite dark, little church, with an impressive altar and ceiling, in particular.

Emperor Charles I of Austria, who died in exile on Madeira, is laid to rest in the Church of our Lady of Monte Madeira. My wife and I paid a visit and were touched by the tomb.

When we went to see the ”Casa Tipicas de Santana”.we run into the nice church Santa Ana in Santana. A small, but interesting church.

We had a short photo stop here as part of a cruise ship excursion from Funchal. Parking spots are limited but the view is well worth the effort. The Terreiro Da Luta includes a small church, the monument Our Lady of Peace, and a viewing area offering stunning views over Funchal and the surrounding area.
The monument features four Roman pillars and is decorated with chains from three ships sunk by a U-boat bombing in December 1916. A local priest promised in 1917 to build a monument should peace return to Madeira, and this was fulfilled in 1927 following the end of World War I. Interesting story and well worth a short stop

Big public park in the centre of Funchal with some interesting trees. Cafe. A lot of traffic noise, but good views over the harbour.
