What travelers are saying
- Christine GStandish, UK3 contributionsBeautiful place to visit for a mini break.
We took a half hour boat trip around the canals - full of fascinating facts and information, our tour guide effortlessly switched between several languages to accommodate everyone on the trip.
It is an easy place to walk around with many interesting mediaeval buildings to see.
Lots of cafes and restaurants to eat and pass time people watching.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I loved sitting outside to dine, and people watched.Written August 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ffion G22 contributionsExcellent activity to do in Bruges! 366 steps is harder than it sounds and it does get narrow but don’t let that put you off at all as it goes quickly (only took us about 10 minutes) and the views are 100% worth it! The queue to get in was about 20 minutes and we had bought a tickets on the machine in the entrance (but you have to buy them a few hours in advance if you use the machine)Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sarah35 contributionsGreat trip to the brasserie for lunch one day where we had the pate and then flemish stew with many Zot's!! And on the second day popped in for another Zot and a cheese snack! Food and the Zot is always fantastic! We've been coming here for the last 5 time's we've visited Bruges and it never disappoints!! Would definitely recommend!Written September 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Olaf Johansen27 contributionsThe Basilica of the Holy Blood is an important religious site with a stunning interior. The relic of the Holy Blood, said to contain drops of Christ's blood, is an awe-inspiring sight. The lower chapel is atmospheric and peaceful. The upper chapel is a contrast with its vibrant Gothic design. A must-visit for its spiritual and historical significance.Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brittany_11_10Los Angeles, CA1,769 contributionsBeautiful and serene. Great photo ops on the bridge, or just a lovely place to stroll around and look at. Definitely less crowded in the morning (in the summer, on a weekday).Written August 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann BIlfracombe, Devon4 contributionsA remarkable opportunity not to be missed. The skills Luc Vanleare has for making replica historical harps is wonderful. We were bathed in exquisite music, enlightened as to the origins and workings of various harps, and treated to a beautiful song he composed and sang in memory of his mother.Written September 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CautiousClevelandCleveland, OH25 contributionsBruges is definitely worth visiting. Like stepping back to Medieval Times walking around the monastery for lay women was beautiful and so peaceful. The town has canals that you can travel on and there are open plazas where you can relax and enjoy French fries that actually originated in Belgium along with Belgium waffles and Zot beer in one of the original beer gardens or you can take a horse and buggy ride. I would love to go back,Written July 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brittany_11_10Los Angeles, CA1,769 contributionsNot sure how the person a few down rated this square as "average"; it's gorgeous. Just another part of beautiful Bruges/Brugge (though also very touristy--at least in the summer). Amazing architecture abounds!Written August 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Peter BCincinnati, OH432 contributionsThe museum is small, just 7 rooms, but the quality is very high. It is a nice complement to the Rijksmuseum. For me the highlight is The Last Judgment by Hieronymus Bosch. You can stare at it for an hour and still discover interesting scenes. The two Jan van Eyck paintings are worth appreciating as well.

You have to scan each code and listen and there’s so many it just lost its edge for us.
We also had to rush to make the last chocolate tasting session at the end.

- AnLil930 contributionsNot everyone’s into the dark side of history, but compared to Granada, this is tame. If you’ve seen a 1638 witch’s scale then you’ve gotten a taste of the Spanish Inquisition. Let’s not forget Deutsch Strasbourg (1349). These “instruments” travelled far & wide with the Portuguese, who made friends with Japan or Indian Mughals, and on to New France (America & Quebec)—not limited after the 1400s to Oude Steen/ “Old Stone.” They were used till almost the mid-1800s in Mexico before enslaved peoples achieved liberation—hence, Emancipation Day’s a big deal (almost 2 centuries in Canada)—where Martin Luther King dropped in for yearly celebrations; then decades later, Emancipation & desegregation happens in the U.S. Next up, capital punishment: the guillotine & electric chair. Get ready!Written September 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Peter BCincinnati, OH432 contributionsThe church itself is very nice, but not necessary to see. But the Michelangelo statue is a peer of his Moses and Pieta. There is a small charge to get into see the side chapel that houses the statue, and a place to sit quietly and contemplate it.Written May 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rachel E2 contributionsThe tour itself was interesting for those who are interested in the history and production of beer. All information is shared via tablet and headphones so you scan pictures/objects and information is presented (can be read or video. It was not always clear which things should be scanned, which was a shame, but the quiz along the way was fun. Our favourite part was the beer tasting at the end in the Beer Experience Bar. The bar can also be visited without paying to enter the museum.Written August 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
