- BritAbroad97Wales, UK49 contributionsThis was the first chocolate shop we went into when we got into Bruges and happened to be top on Tripadvisor, and I can see why!
It’s a family run shop with 2 locations in Bruges. We ended up visiting both shops (we decided we needed to buy more after visiting the first) and the husband and wife who run the shops were both super friendly and helpful. They gave us great recommendations on where else to go while in Bruges and gave us info about their products helping us decide what to go for.
They have a great range of handmade chocolates with all sorts of flavours. We bought quite a lot of their selection and every one of them was delicious.
We’ll definitely be visiting Chocolates and Happiness when in Bruges again.
We ate our chocolates before taking photos, but I managed to take a photo of my sister’s box before giving them to her.Written March 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Marian BBratislava, Slovakia1,229 contributionsWell located, in old town. - TorranceTravellerGlasgow, UK297 contributionsWe went to have a look at the Wall ( nothing to do with Danny Dyer ) and it wasn't wrong it was right ! Idea is that you pick whatever beer you fancy or you go for a taster selection of 4 beers for Eur 10 on a tray with a few nibbles thrown in
You pick from Soft , Strong or Local.
As you queue you make your choice by looking at the cards hanging from the ceiling.
We thought it was fab and the crowds seemed to agree. Great idea, great beer.Written April 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Emma COxford, UK2,270 contributionsThis place has the best chocolate. That's probably all I need to say really. It's handmade on the premises I believe. There's a wide variety in lots of different flavours...some weird and wonderful. It was busy but the staff were friendly and helpful.
I thought the prices were pretty good considering it's artisan loveliness.

We had the classic hot chocolate and you get a chocolate cup of chocolate chips to stir in hot milk, so lovely and delicious! Nice little biscuits and chocolates on the side included.Written April 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TravelerTabBeverly Hills, CA27 contributionsWe visited Depla Chocolates as part of a walking tour that included a chocolate demonstration. What a treat! These are true Belgian chocolates, so delicious. The family takes their craft seriously, offering a wide selection of treats perfect for gift giving or personal consumption. We put a good dent in our travel budget but couldn't be happier with our prizes!
The staff is friendly and patient, answering all questions and helping you choose the perfect chocolates for your particular palate.Written February 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - janetol1Leatherhead, UK170 contributionsThis shop is in the same street as the Lace Museum, just a few metres away. Its stuffed full of treasures, antique and vintage pieces, all lovely quality and very tempting. The lady who owns it is really welcoming and unsurprisingly has a huge passion for Belgian lace ! I’d thoroughly recommend a visit if you’re interested in seeing /purchasing a beautiful momento from Bruges !Written May 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ÁngelaMadrid, Spain2 contributionsAmazing! The chocolate tastes super good and the service is amazing too. My friends and I got in there just out of curioisty, we didn't intend to buy anything, but we ended up leaving with one box of truffles each because of how good they tasted and how good the service was.Written August 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Andrea L2 contributionsWhen visiting Bruges it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the options for Chocolate, but this shop is a great choice! Staff was Very friendly and lots of praline varieties. They even have a chocolate beer only offered at their shop, specially brewed for them!Written December 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Samantha who?Washington DC, DC348 contributionsMy daughter visited Bruge recently (right before COVID shut down) and purchased a little packet of truffle chocolate. I've had chocolate from Belgium (Brussels), Germany (Munich), Austria (Salzburg and Vienna), Switzerland (Lucerne) and France (Paris). This was the BEST truffle chocolate I've eaten. Loved it so much, going to write and see how we can purchase some and have it sent to Australia :) Haven't been in to the shop so can't comment on other products, but the truffle is amazing.Written March 26, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- AndrewCHorley, UK78 contributionsThis is an interesting one. I read some articles saying this was the place to go including from Rick Steves. I then bought some chocolates and read tripadvisor reviews and was worried I may had made a mistake with all the choice in Bruges and the mixed reviews. I needn’t have worried the chocolates are absolutely amazing and high quality. I can see some of the points of other reviews, I did ask to choose my own chocolates and was suggested a pre made box instead. I was unsure but went with it as I’m pretty easy going. To be fair they did say they would replace any milk with white or dark etc if I preferred and gave my preferences they would accommodate. I can see their point of view to wait for someone to select 50 chocolates (bought 2 boxes) would be time consuming in such a small shop. I didn’t however find them rude at all. To be honest I’m glad I was pushed into a pre selected box as they have selected a wide range of delicious chocolates and if I had chosen myself I would have just stuck to my favourite flavours and not experienced any of these other flavours - it would have been a much more boring box and experience. However, other shops I bought from would be more accommodating and let you choose everything which did mean people behind had to wait a while :) but for that reason I’m giving 4 stars (very good) as while I understand their reasons customer service is not quite 5 star and felt a little under pressure/rushed . However, if you don’t mind a pre made box they are amazing, delicious and they put in a great selection so would still recommend and if I’m back in Bruges will buy one of those again.Written November 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tracy RCary, NC4 contributionsGreat place for tea lovers!
The teapots were so creative, I wish I could've fit a few in my luggage. :)
I made do with a cat teabag holder and cow espresso cups for my MIL.
Much better souvenirs than the other placesWritten April 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - SKGEmmanuelBrussels, Belgium175 contributionsI have been returning here ever since the first time I visited Brugge and they have never failed me. They are consistent and honest on what they offer and they know what they do.
They have a competitive offer based on the fact they they have quality products, with good ingredients and non-industrial recipes. Despite their location and other merchants nearby, this is not a tourist trap that unfortunately one so often finds nowadays.
Personally, I always go for a variety of items. But the Hasselte Spéculoos are by far the star of this place for me : a perfect mouthful, with a prominent favour and a balanced texture with a beautifully soft and mildly moist interior. The only “negative” is that they do not conserve well and they need to be consumed within a few days maximum, which in itself reinforces the quality of the product and proves that needless artificial additives are kept to a minimum.Written September 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - EatSleepTravel615Nashville, TN11 contributionsI love everything about the Spegelaere Chocolate shop. Most of all, it's family owned and operated, so the chocolate you see in the case has been freshly crafted on site. It's located just a block from one of the most scenic bridges into the city, and a short walk from the central tourist zone. The products look great, taste great, are priced right, and are served by the friendly owners. I often see locals shopping here ... which is a strong testament to the quality you will find here.Written September 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
