What travelers are saying
- BradJillHong Kong, China154,978 contributionsJardin du Petite Sablon is small yet delightful garden located across the street from the Church of Our Lady of Sablon. The garden was designed in Neo-Renaissance style with elegant landscaping, curved footpaths with seating benches and it is bursting with monuments.
You will find bronze statues standing atop the stone pillars that surround the garden representing various guilds and industry. Within the garden grounds there are 10 life sized statues of 16th-century humanists and distinguished Belgians that are arranged in a semi-circle behind the beautiful fountain monument dedicated to martyred patriots, the Counts of Egmont and Hornes.
It all makes for a pleasant place to enjoy an afternoon rest or to partake in monument viewing if that is cup of tea. You can conveniently pass by before or after taking in the Lady of Sablon Church across the street. A 15 minute walk around here should suffice.Written December 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is 32 hectare, rectangular-shaped park that is open from 6am to 10pm daily.
Previously, these were the garden grounds of the Coudenberg Palace. However, what you see today was designed in Neo-classical manner by French architect Gilles-Barnabé Guimard and landscape architect Joachim Zinner between 1776-83.
There are tree lined pedestrian boulevards with numerous Greek and Roman style sculptures. You'll find a circular fountain pool, old gazebo, kiosks, plenty of walking paths, park benches, Royal Theatre house and Vaux Hall.
It is a nice park for a morning walk, particularly for those who enjoy spending time off of the busy city streets, seeking a place to relax, read a book and just enjoy time in a large urban city park.Written November 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a gorgeous walk during the day on the way to the Magritte Museum, but I wanted to come back for the lights in the evening. The light installation was interactive and everyone seemed to oh and ah - include me in the ones who oh'd and ah'd. You can also see a stunning view of the city from the top of the park and even parts of the holiday light show.Written January 20, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Super for short walks and picnics. The pond had baby moorhens and they were being photographed by several enthusiasts.Written May 24, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BradJillHong Kong, China154,978 contributionsThe Garden of Sculptures is located just next to the Royal Museum of Fine Arts on Rue de la Régence. This is a small garden with some interesting contemporary sculptures. It is believed that the garden is also located on the site of an 18th-century botanical garden because of the unique tree species that can be found here.
There is a fountain and park benches to sit while viewing the sculptures. A decent place for a brief rest before/after your museum visit. Otherwise, if you are interested in gardens with monument viewing, make sure to also visit the Jardin du Petit Sablon just 50-60 metres down the street from here as well. There you will find lovely landscaping and impressive statues of historic Belgian figures of history.Written November 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
