- 143debbiep14 contributionsAbsolutely stunning cathedral. We were there during the week around dark. We did the audio tour which you can download in the cathedral. Highly recommend stopping here if cathedral and architecture is your thingWritten January 12, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We loved the view inside and outside
There's also a lovely (extremely) well manicured garden across the street

Impressive and imposing over the city yet a beautiful place to get a panoramic view of the city and admire the architecture.Written November 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeonhknyHong Kong, China23,073 contributionsThis is a small church in downtown Brussels. In contrast to the hordes of tourists at the Grand Place or Manneken Pis, Eglise St-Nicolas is a peaceful place for spiritual self-reflection. Interior is simple. Great for a short rest while exploring the Belgian capital.Written June 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeonhknyHong Kong, China23,073 contributionsThis is one among many churches and cathedrals in downtown Brussels. Eglise Sainte-Catherine is a larger cathedral with an imposing facade and relatively unpolished interior. It is a quiet place without many tourists.Written June 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BradHong Kong, China180,018 contributionsEglise Note Dame De La Chapelle (The Church Of Our Lady Of The Chapelle) is situated upon Place de la Chapelle and is open from 10am to 6pm daily. The church dates back to the 12th-century and mainly features early Romanesque and Gothic features added during the 15th-century. There is also a Baroque style tower that was added after the French bombardment in the late 17th-century. Notably, this is where Flemish Old Master Pieter Bruegel the Elder is buried.
In addition to an impressive exterior, there are a couple monuments outside the church worth having a look-see. These include the recent tribute statue and plaque to Bruegel as well as a replica obelisk fountain that resembles the 18th-century monument that once rested on the old church grounds before they were converted into a public square in the 1820s.
There are interesting things to see within the church as well including fresco paintings, stained-glass windows, delicately carved wooden pulpit and confessionals, Baroque side altars and other items of religious worship. The main altar and apse are nicely ornamented while the nave offers statue lined columns. Overall, it is a nice church, worth 10-15 minutes to explore if you are interested in historic churches and enjoy seeing them during your travels.Written November 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And it's very beautiful, in architecture and nature.Written March 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeonhknyHong Kong, China23,073 contributionsAlthough far from a religious city, Brussels is not lacking in churches or cathedrals. Eglise Saint-Jean-Baptiste au Beguinage is one among many religious institutions in the Belgian capital. The facade is impressive and a bit reminiscent of Jesuits. Unfortunately it is not open during our time of visit.Written June 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David nManchester, UK4,826 contributionsAlthough we have been around here several times, this was the first time that we had found it open. Being the place of royal burials, we expected more splendour. However, it was still stately.Written May 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lapinou cookie250 contributionsHow peaceful and spiritual to find an oasis of orthodox beauty in the centre of Bruxelles. The orthodox churches are few and often rented from local Catholic establishments. Therefore celebrating Christmas or Easter in a truly Orthodox church is rare and magic. The cupolas, the Byzantine icons, the soothing chants and the richness of the priests religious clothing. All take your mind and faith away on a trip of Eastern spirituality. Very beautiful!Written January 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rachael2400New York City, NY44 contributionsWalked past the synagogue. Saw there was a light on and rang the bell but no one answer. Wish we could have seen the interior of the synagogue בית תפילה.Written December 28, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TrainbleuBrussels, Belgium39,437 contributionsI stumbled upon this well-kept Catholic Marian shrine on my way to the Renée Magritte museum in Jette. It is one of the many replicas of the grotto of Apparitions in Lourdes (France) built all over the world in the early 20th century. The large structure in reinforced concrete in Jette, built next to an existing chapel, was inaugurated during WWI in 1915, when many pilgrims felt the need to pray for the soldiers. Apart from a marble altar, it contains statues of Our Lady of Lourdes and the archangel Michael. The small, kneeling figure to the left represents Bernadette Soubirous, the girl who experienced the apparitions in 1858. The grotto is topped by a striking bronze Christ on the cross by Belgian sculptor Marcel Rau (1886–1966), but it is rather difficult to see from below. As I didn’t have the time to visit the chapel and explore the surrounding garden with the chapels of the Mysteries of the Rosary and the fourteen stations of the Way of the Cross, I will have to come back and pick up an audio guide at the Ave Maria souvenir shop next to the chapel.Written March 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EmilyLondon, UK508 contributionsImpressive Cathedral, beautiful architecture. Not a huge amount to see inside but had some great examples of stained glass.
