This is an easy trip to make from Brussels. I may have over-anticipated, but I was expecting more from the visit. When you think of Antwerp, generally your first thought is of diamonds. The diamond portion of this trip was walking down a sidewalk, peering into jewelry store windows like I can do at home. And that was on the way to the train station where we got about 10 minutes to look at its blend of old and new architecture but not much about history. My wife and I had a wonderful breakfast which included our first Belgian waffle. Our guide gave us a great tour of the city's history, which included interesting elements from across the centuries. It's an inexpensive tour and gives the traveler another look at some of the many areas in and around Brussels. If you just want to hit the highlights, this tour will do it. If you are really interested in learning about Antwerp's military and commerical history, a personal guide would be a better bet.
