- stevo1965Felixstowe, UK43 contributionsThis is an amazing piece of architecture for its time with its glass ceiling, filled with cafes, high end shops and lots of shops selling chocolate, also has a cinema this a quaint shopping gallery just off Grand placeWritten March 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TrainbleuBrussels, Belgium28,537 contributionsWe visited Woluwe Shopping Center in July (school holidays in Belgium), which may explain why it was so quiet, despite the fact that summer sales were in full swing. Covid-19 may also have played a role as many people tend to avoid crowded places these days. When it was created in 1968 the shopping mall was the first of its kind in Belgium. Since then, it has been enlarged and refurbished several times and, today, it doesn’t look different from any other mall and you’ll find all the usual suspects. But we did find an unfiltered olive oil we had been looking for everywhere at an Italian Specialty Shop (‘Spécialités italiennes’). There are several pleasant places to have a bite or a drink; the loos were clean. Maybe due to the glass roof of the central hall - a nice feature in itself – it was a bit too hot inside on a warm summer day.
Tram 8 (stop Woluwe Shopping) left us opposite the mall. Metro station Roodebeek on line 1 is accessible from inside the mall.
Reading the reviews, we were amazed Flemish (Belgian) reviewers have been allowed to rant against and even insult French speaking shop assistants and to compare this mall to others, so much better, in Flanders (and even in Germany!). Isn’t that supposed to be against TA rules?Written August 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a sad, but nowadays inevitable discrepancy between the elegant architecture designed by Henri Rieck in the early 1880s and the quality of the shops and food places lining the arcade. A few traditional stores, like Davidoff cigars and Coutellerie du Roi, soldier on but even our favourite oyster bar seems to have disappeared. Eventually the whole centre of Brussels well be swamped with food outlets selling fried chicken, pizza, pasta, kebab, chocolate and ghastly, so-called Belgian waffles.Written March 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shania HeleneCurepipe20 contributionsI heard the parking and other services are not free and that's slightly inconvenient for car owners. I, however, cam by tram and faced no difficulties into coming or leaving. It's huge with a whole bunch of amazing shops. Seriously, you can literally find anything you need there! There's so much variety of shops and food places and it's so clean.Written October 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Claire C19 contributionsA little bit of everything and the shop keepers are very welcoming and helpful. I loved walking around whilst it was quiet, plenty of parking. Great places to eat, hard to choose where to though. Been 3 times now and discover new shops each timeWritten June 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BradJillHong Kong, China154,866 contributionsGalerie Ravenstein is a 1950s era shopping arcade and office complex near Brussels Central Station. There is some interesting architecture and artwork around the two entrances.
Within there are a small range of retailers, casual eateries and other shops. Otherwise, this now seems to be mostly a pedestrian passageway between Upper Town and Lower Town.
For tourists, a quick look/pass through if you are in the area is enough. Save your shopping time for more interesting and impressive Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert if interested in this type experience while in Brussels.Written March 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sometimes there is street entertainment, although not so much with Covid and Grand Place is only a short walk away.Written June 2, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shane GRaleigh, NC659 contributionsIt was a 15-30 minute journey from the Thon Hotel City Center by bus to this Shopping Center. There is a grocery store in the rear area of the Shopping Center. It was a comfortable atmosphere on the day I visited. There was rain, however it was not too crowded. There was a "Suavis" Cafe located in this shopping Center (see photos) and the food was delicious. Purchased a new cell phone and the price didn't seem to be crazy expensive considering it was a Shopping Mall. Was able to go down to the "Base" mobile store to activate my sim and the data had me up and running in less than an hour. The grocery had plenty of things to choose from as well. This was one of the more comfortable shopping experiences. On the corner outside of this shopping mall is located a nice gym.Written July 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TrainbleuBrussels, Belgium28,537 contributionsNormally we tend to avoid shopping malls and never visit them on our travels unless they convey a sense of the local culture or are particularly interesting from an architectural point of view. That is not the case of the recently refurbished City 2 mall in Brussels. But sometimes we just need a convenient place like City 2 to snatch up clothes, toys, books (FNAC), a mobile phone or the right disposable vacuum bags (at Van den Borre or Handyman). With restaurants still closed due to Covid-19 the food court downstairs offers a good choice of takeaway food. Public transportation is just around the corner.
Why a TA contributor's recent rant (in French) against a particular shop assistant at a particular shop (FNAC) would be accepted as a ‘review’ of the whole City 2 shopping mall is a mystery to us.Written March 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
