I love this beautiful arcade, full of decadent shops, cafés and restaurants. It is as grand as it is beautiful and dates back to the 1800's. It is often very busy but is worth the effort and I thoroughly recommend sitting down with some chocolates and a hot chocolate to watch the world go by. This is possibly my favourite place in Brussels as the architecture is stunning. Being there a couple of weeks before Christmas made it even cosier!

We visited Woluwe Shopping Center in July (school holidays in Belgium), which may explain why it was so quiet, despite the fact that summer sales were in full swing. Covid-19 may also have played a role as many people tend to avoid crowded places these days. When it was created in 1968 the shopping mall was the first of its kind in Belgium. Since then, it has been enlarged and refurbished several times and, today, it doesn’t look different from any other mall and you’ll find all the usual suspects. But we did find an unfiltered olive oil we had been looking for everywhere at an Italian Specialty Shop (‘Spécialités italiennes’). There are several pleasant places to have a bite or a drink; the loos were clean. Maybe due to the glass roof of the central hall - a nice feature in itself – it was a bit too hot inside on a warm summer day.

Tram 8 (stop Woluwe Shopping) left us opposite the mall. Metro station Roodebeek on line 1 is accessible from inside the mall.

Reading the reviews, we were amazed Flemish (Belgian) reviewers have been allowed to rant against and even insult French speaking shop assistants and to compare this mall to others, so much better, in Flanders (and even in Germany!). Isn’t that supposed to be against TA rules?

A blast from the past amidst the modern and arguably rather ugly commercial expressions of the Rue Neuve. Very elegant small scale shops in a pleasant indoor setting. Worth a visit for sure to get some relief from the hustle and bustle.

A little bit of everything and the shop keepers are very welcoming and helpful. I loved walking around whilst it was quiet, plenty of parking. Great places to eat, hard to choose where to though. Been 3 times now and discover new shops each time

The Docks Bruxsel shopping centre is located in the north of Brussels, along the canal, which is not the nicest neighbourhood. It occupies the site of the former Godin cast-iron stove factory. A few old buildings have been preserved, but the shopping centre itself is surprisingly modern, spacious, and airy. Signage isn’t great. We didn’t see any floor maps, and it took us quite some time to find the loos in the basement, where we had to pay 1 euro and queue. We enjoyed walking around, but we were surprised there was so little shopping going on in this mall. Even on a Wednesday afternoon, when there is no school, most of the shops were almost empty. Maybe people don’t bother because the offer of shops is very similar to that of other shopping centres in Brussels? The food outlets and cafes are nothing special either. It must be said Docks has several entertainment venues we didn’t visit: a cinema, a Lego Discovery Centre, the Koezio indoor adventure park, and the Espace Godin, an exhibition about the life and work of Jean-Baptiste André Godin (1817-1888). We visited by public transport. Tram 7 stops right in front of the main entrance, Tram 10 stops in front of the Quai des Usines entrance.

We quite like Galerie Ravenstein, especially the atrium with its high concrete and glass cupola and the majestic staircase leading to Horta’s Palais des Beaux-Arts in the upper town. Sadly enough, the modernist Galerie Ravenstein, built as a covered shopping mall by architects Alexis and Philippe Dumont in the mid-1950s, seems to have lost its original purpose and lustre these days. Most of the shops, restaurants, and cafés are gone; there are only a few businesses left. So, if it’s a shopping experience you are after, you will have to look elsewhere. But the gallery is still a pleasant shortcut between the Bruxelles Midi railway station and the upper town. The porches on both sides are worth a look.

My apartment was right in the heart of this area - a pedetsrianised shopping district where you can find all manner of different shops, cafes and restaurants with plenty of places to sit and eat and watch the world go by. Sometimes there is street entertainment, although not so much with Covid and Grand Place is only a short walk away.

Normally we tend to avoid shopping malls and never visit them on our travels unless they convey a sense of the local culture or are particularly interesting from an architectural point of view. That is not the case of the recently refurbished City 2 mall in Brussels. But sometimes we just need a convenient place like City 2 to snatch up clothes, toys, books (FNAC), a mobile phone or the right disposable vacuum bags (at Van den Borre or Handyman). With restaurants still closed due to Covid-19 the food court downstairs offers a good choice of takeaway food. Public transportation is just around the corner.

Why a TA contributor's recent rant (in French) against a particular shop assistant at a particular shop (FNAC) would be accepted as a ‘review’ of the whole City 2 shopping mall is a mystery to us.

It was a 15-30 minute journey from the Thon Hotel City Center by bus to this Shopping Center. There is a grocery store in the rear area of the Shopping Center. It was a comfortable atmosphere on the day I visited. There was rain, however it was not too crowded. There was a "Suavis" Cafe located in this shopping Center (see photos) and the food was delicious. Purchased a new cell phone and the price didn't seem to be crazy expensive considering it was a Shopping Mall. Was able to go down to the "Base" mobile store to activate my sim and the data had me up and running in less than an hour. The grocery had plenty of things to choose from as well. This was one of the more comfortable shopping experiences. On the corner outside of this shopping mall is located a nice gym.
