... and canals and everything the City has to offer - but Vondelpark is the perfect retreat from the concrete and hussel and bussle of the great city, worth taking the time out for a lovely little stroll in nature!
Perhaps the BEST city park that I have ever visited...this lush green park has very relaxing places to walk, picnic, bike, throw ball...including large trees, green lawns, flowers, ponds, trails, benches, bridges...

... and want to hike, bike or horseback ride in a beautiful setting of woods, high grassy dunes, lakes, and amidst waterfowl, wild Highland cattle, ponies and other wildlife, then this is the National park for you.
If you're visiting Amsterdam and you want to visit the beach it is great to hire a bike at Haarlem train station and cycle from there, through the Nationaal Park Zuid Kennemerland, to the Parnassia beach location.

Fun and educational Texel wildlife park with seals and birds !
It is wonderful to see the seals that are rescued and rehabilitated and returned to nature (when possible) and also how they care for those animals who cannot be returned.

The square is fascinating for its homage to its namesake but also for the hustle and bustle of people shopping, catching the many buses that stop here, and enjoying the green park that adds color to the spot.
We just stumbled into the awesome little park and square containing manicured lawns, vegetation and bronze/copper statues of Dutch military heroes.

What you really want to do though, is make sure you cross the canals on the sides of the park, climb up the dike and see a great view of Dutch countryside (if you can ignore the highway alongside it).
The park is great to come for a walk or jog, in summers its also good for a swim.

... smells coming from the canals in the summers back in the 18th century, the very rich fled the city to go their country houses which were surrounded by peaceful parks filled with fresh air and beautiful nature.

A lot of joggers, walkers and cyclists in the park but that adds to the ambience and security.
Much better than other parks in the center which get immediately overcrowded when the sun goes out of the clouds.
