Very interesting , the building itself is worth visiting apart from the exhibitions , it's quite distinctive and very central . Each time I have been there the exhibitions are terrific. The lobby and stairway has a spectacular glass installation there permanently . Nice cafe for a cup of coffee . Downstairs , under water there are children's activities . Well worth a few hours visit.

Nice little green refuge in the city. The beautiful gardens are free to visit (best in spring or summer). It's not big, but perfect for a stroll and to relax with a good book on one of the benches.

I think there are around 250 steps to get to the top. Going up is probably not the safest, the same stairs you're going up, others are going down and there isn't any railing either, just a rope that's dangling. The top is a very nice view of the city. I think it's around 3 euros per person, and you buy the ticket at the tourist information office across the street.

We had a special, from chef Pelle. With a lot of love he prepared a 1150grams tomahawk-steak for the 3 of us. The steak was delicious! The steak is not on the menu, but just ask the chef (2 day notice)!

Great looking train station with history, a grocery store and some restaurants inside. Next to bus station which makes it easy to transfer.

I don't often leave reviews for attractions/events, but I make an exception in this case. I know the Dutch fascination with ships/boats is almost as popular as their fascination with bicycles and cheese. I am not usually one who is wooed with ships and originally I had no plans to visit this museum, despite being in Groningen for a full week. I am VERY glad that I made the time for this museum however. First, the buildings that it is housed in is very very interesting and quite historical just in itself. I would go here JUST for that. The museum does an excellent job at squeezing in a lot of stuff and information into a relatively smaller space (something that the Dutch are quite adept at). There is much to see here, which I wasn't expecting much due to the seemingly limited space of the museum itself. The museum did an excellent job at displaying maritime history and also at explaining Dutch history and culture. I think this museum is very underrated and unfortunately perhaps undervisited. I was the only person in the museum for about 2 hours. This museum is a wonderful little gem and it will be your misfortune if you skip it.

Small but certainly interesting museum in center of Groningen. Starting with modern day archaeology examples , but also in past collected items and tribute to first female Dutch physician and advocate for women’s vote rights. Interesting collection of anatomy related samples ( Enschede collection).

Love this little park, a real local hotspot in the summer. Pack a picnic and a blanket and pick a spot on one of the sprawling lawns. Can get really busy and a bit rowdy in the evenings when it's hot! Please always take your trash with you.

Great beers, friendly staff. Plenty of room inside. There's a large terras too (open in the spring/summer). Currently they only serve (good!) snacks, but they are opening a professional kitchen shortly.

A small museum about the art of printing. There are a few very old printing presses and most of them may be used by visitors. There are other activities as well: making a booklet, foam painting and creating a postcard using stamps. All in all, a museum with a small collection but a lot of things to do. The staff is very friendly and passionate.

This classic commerce building is now an Albert Hein and a liquor store. The liquor store has the best selection of wines, beers and liquors in town, especially jenevers.

Its a nice and quint church right in the middle of the city center. Perhaps very old and sometimes there are exhibitions held. This church is a landmark and on saturdays there is a flower market right next to it. If your are Groningen this church wont go unnoticed.
