As Queen fans this was one of our reasons for choosing a visit to Montreux. Freddie is an icon and this statue pays homage to him. If you love Freddie you'll love the statue. It is a life size realistic statue in one of his iconic poses. that appears on the cover of Made In Heaven. It stands on the banks of Lake Geneva and is literally "just there". Its free to visit and have your photo taken next to.

If you don't love Freddie or Queen then its not for you.

Fun for the Queen fan but small. Lower your expectations and you will have a nice 40 minutes watching the Queen merchandising.

This train ride provides amazing views of the lake and the high alpine scenery. We sat in the window seats on the right side of the train but the views were equally beautiful from either side of the train.
The snow was still on the tops of the mountains and we were awestruck at the beautiful of the remote high mountain farms and villages along the route.

Motreux lakeside and promenade are among the most beautiful places to visit in the whole of Switzerland. During our three days’ stay in Montreux , we enjoyed long walks along the lake every day. The entire lakeside is well planned and beautifully maintained with nice gardens and colourful flowers. There are artistic buildings , nice restaurants and many enjoyable spots all along the promenade.

Beautiful views over Lake Leman and the mountains. There’s a marmot reservation area where you can see the illustrious marmot. There’s also a mountain herb garden and a tiny Tibetan monument. Great starting point for mountain walks. One stop before the top of Rocher de Naye there’s a very nice mountain restaurant called Buvette de Jaman, which serves fresh homemade food and a delicious home made ice tea. Views from the mountain train are also spectacular.

Highly recommend a wine tasting at Domaine Bovy and walking along Chem. du Dezaley. The latter is a quiet, flat path along the lake with vineyards right on either side of you for the whole walk.

Not just Jazz new and old music with many venues and lots free.
Food, drinks, music , atmosphere, sun, a bucket list experience.
We have bumped into Phil Collins & David Bowie in the past.

As part of a day tour - the chocolate train was an interesting 45 minute ride through the very scenic area. Enjoyed a cup of coffee and croissant. Jumped on a bus after arriving to Gruyere and then on to the Cailler chocolate factory.
Overall, enjoyable for our family of four (two adults and two children -12 and 7) - I'd recommend

Wonderful Christmas market. Very different than the more traditional ones in Germany, with a wide variety of shops, eats and activities for kids to be entertained. Even on a rainy day, there is a large covered area, but don't miss the walk along the lakefront. Highly recommended. Parking can be found in the Marché Montreux parking garage that is directly underneath the market. We were there in the morning and the market was not yet overly crowded although we did have to wait a bit for a parking spot.

Had dinner here one night when in Montreux. As I was not sure what the quality of the meat dishes mmight be I opted for vegetarian which was very good. However seeing the steakls that were delivered to my colleagues I regretted ny choice as they were exactly the type I like - very lean and good quality, with good colour and texture.

    So next time...

Montreux old town is nested between the Montreux promenade by the Geneva lake and a mountain range in the back.
It's an easy uphill climb to reach the small compact town with cute narrow streets, picturesque houses and small squares. It will require up to 2 hrs your time.

Why not? When you on't have much to offer except a beautiful Lake & stunning mountains, there has to be some cultural interests too.
He was supposed to be good but I found Lolita a bit tedious.

We visited old town Montreux and Eglise St Vincent. It is well worth visit. We sat in quiet contemplation , being the only people in there.
The views are spectacular from the court yard. We accessed the local bus up from Montreux, a regular service and stopped at a local cafe.

This is a lovely spot, close to the lake & lots of character unlike most of Switzerland's concrete buildings.
Must be fun when there is an event going on.
