Fortunate that it was a perfect day for being beside the wonderful Lake. All day blue sky reflected in the water’s shimmering blue.

It was delightful walking along the promenade at the water’s edge. And also seeing it from many vantage points throughout the visit.

It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The lake top view from the mount of San Salvatore is a breathtaking significantly picturesque unforgettable view. A cable car is used to get up the mountain. There is a great restaurant on top of the mountain, a church, a small museum (free of charge), and much more hiking and higher views are available for more beautiful panoramic views.

The views are spectacular. Make sure you create a reservation or the restaurant before you get up there and the staff are very friendly.

Famous for its collection of renowned frescoes, the stand-out one undoubtedly is the Passion and Crucifixion of Christ.

By the Italian artist Bernardino Luini it shows Christ crucified between the two thieves. Over 150 figures throng the art piece, in conjunction with numerous horses holding mounts and saintly figures like St Sebastian with his body-fill of arrows.

What a sense of true tranquility is there! I had the chance to explore it during sunrise and sunset, while it was not crowded in the early morning, and so picturesque. It is very peaceful and calm, and admirable by its calm shore that is full of birds. The outdoor gym is an adding-value idea as well. Some people are happily exercising there in the early morning.

This is a great walk along the lake to Gandria. The walk is easy to follow with clear signs and information boards. It is an easy walk to do - you don’t need hiking boots! The terrain is predominantly flat and mostly a firm wide path. There are a couple of up and down sections but these are safe and walkable. There is one main section with a lot of steps shortly before approaching Gandria, as well as lots of steps and alleyways in Gandria itself. Although you are walking along and above the lake, we didn’t have any sense of being too close to the edge (compared to trails in and around Como which were much more precarious and in parts unsafe). The walk from Lugano to Gandria (and back) took us a couple of hours but we were walking leisurely and enjoying the views which are really quite beautiful.

Unlike the photos, it is more vibrant and amusing to walk around there, do shopping, explore the buildings style, meet other happily exploring people. I had the chance to visit it on Sunday during the Christmas festivals, so it was quite glowing place.

Certainly a cute village tumbling down the hillside. Lots of stairs if you like them but in reality not a lot that's unusual if you've spent time in this part of the world. If you're time is limited I wouldn't put in top of your 'to-do' list, but if you do make sure you don't drive past it. In effect there's nothing to see from the road. You need to find the carparks at the top and walk down.

I believe it is a calm beach like no other because it is a pretty tranquil lake and a relatively calmer city. The surrounding landscape is dazzling. I saw it in the winter, so no chance for swimming.

As avid travellers with camera had high anticipation of Luigi Ghirri’s exhibition. Albeit nowadays being a world away in photography terms from his era of the 1970s and ‘80s.

He trained as a Surveyor and this background influenced his later undertakings as a photographer. Such as in his compositions.

Interesting to see such a wide selection of his work from both Italy and other of neighbouring areas of Europe.

Had never much encountered the sculptural creations of the American artist Alexander Calder.

Featuring predominantly small suspended pieces of material joined by metal wiring in various colours, the fine expanse of his sculptural pieces was a unique opportunity to see a new (to us) artist.
