What travelers are saying
- AnneRedhill, UK222 contributionsWe visited the gardens on the first Sunday of October so didn't have to pay - free admission first Sunday of every month. You have to queue for a ticket and then queue again for admission which is rather tedious. Also be advised that there's a metal detector at the entrance : we'd brought a picnic and some cutlery from our accommodation which we had to leave and collect when we left!
Once in we thought the gardens were great: there's so much to see, from the amazing views over the city at the very top of the gardens ( a steep climb but worth it), the fountains and statues, tree lined walkways, two small botanical gardens with a variety of specimen shrubs and woodland areas.
There are lots of benches in every part of the garden - I don't understand where the reviewer was who said there's only six in the entire place!
If you're expecting to see a garden full of colour with herbaceous borders you'll be disappointed, it's completely different to an English garden, but that makes it an interesting experience. You also need to be prepared to walk a long way if you want to see it all; we spent over four hours and walked about five miles. A very enjoyable day.Written October 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Go if you have time in the winter but not a must do.Written May 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN7,647 contributionsThe Arno River as it flows through Florence is quite scenic especially along the stretch near the Ponte Vecchio. It was enjoyable to stroll along the river taking in the view.Written January 6, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN7,647 contributionsAs you make the climb up to the Piazza Michelangelo, you will pass through this rose garden. The garden was designed by Florentine architect Giuseppe Poggi in 1865. It's a pleasant place although probably more attractive in the spring or summer than when we visited in the winter and offers good views. However, the best views of Florence will be from the Piazza Michelangelo which is located just above the Rose Garden. Keep in mind that the Rose Garden does close as sunset which may affect your plans if you are visiting the Piazza Michelangelo at sunset.Written January 5, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tadi tDorcol, Serbia1 contributionVilla was absolutely stunning. So much history there... Medici, Vittorio Emanuele... Beautiful garden. We followed timeline on their website and it was accurate. Just the guide didn't speak English, but there are explanations in every room and additional materials we could that thay gave us, so we could follow the visit. Also some audio guide trough QR code. And surprisingly, visit was free.Written May 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John NSydney, Australia974 contributionsOnly Open between 25 April > 20 May each year ..& free of charge entry!..the rocky /unpaved steeply-sloping terrain between the ancient olives makes for a very challenging descent & return..don't forget THAT!
But Oh The Iris! En mass & so many varieties, sizes & colours you may never see again! It was a joy!
But not really accessible for the physically-challenged like me >> & most certainly anyone wheelchair-bound cannot even attempt it, dare I say.
TIP : The Number 12 bus correctly terminates at the Piazzale Michelangelo .. but it quaintly drops you at a bus stop that's a differently-named destination! BEWARE!Written April 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is no admission fee which is nice. We came to see the famous citrus collection and unfortunately they are kept in a locked conservatory until April 15.Written April 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel M6 contributionsIf you are a runner and will be touring Florence stay near this park. It has a 6.8 kilometer loop jogging path -- no traffic, only crossing a handful of not busy streets. I ran very early in the morning -- like 6 to 7 am -- and there were a handful of other joggers so felt safe but not crowded. Plus it is only about 1 mile from the Ponte Vecchio which can be reached by a running path along the Arno river.Written November 6, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - naomidean87Winnersh, UK48 contributionsNo exotic plants to see when I went but the park was lovely and quiet and had a lovely chilled afternoon relaxing there away from all the noise of the centre. Great little hideaway green space to take a moment to switch off in between exploring the city. Lots of nice shady areas to keep cool as well. Would have been 5/5 if there had been plants in the greenhouse partWritten August 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - littlemsglobetrotter25Evesham, England, United Kingdom100 contributionsI saw Ennio Morricone at this venue, very well organised and lots of staff to help. I was amazed at how close I was to the stage, I was at the back in the stalls. The atmosphere was amazing the acoustics and lighting just added to the whole experience. Got a bus from St Marco's square number 17, 21 and walked the rest 10 minute walk. There were no buses after the event so booking a taxi would be advisable if staying in Central FlorenceWritten March 13, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul CLondon, UK20 contributionsVilla Gamberai was beautiful - an exception to our visit to Florence. Unfortunately Florence, like Venice, has become unbearable. Crowds everywhere made it impossible to get into most museums and galleries, and when we did get in, it was impossible to see anything because of the number of visitors. Restaurants were full and there were long queues outside many of them. The general impression of the town was that of a machine designed for making money from tourists rather than a city famous for its beauty. Gamberaai gets you away from this, at least.Written May 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DavidLiverpool, UK81 contributionsWe stayed here for one night to be close to Pisa airport. Quite basic but very clean. Receptionist spoke no English but friendly. Breakfast very basic but think we could have asked for more if we spoke better Italian. Good location. Great town for eating and drinking in lovely beach resort. Bar at end of pier great of an evening to look back at lights of the coast line.Written August 17, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LepandRa'anana, Israel93 contributionsThe public is allowed in once an hour on the half hour i. e. 10.30 11.30 etc.
The interior is stunning. It is one of the most beautiful villas I have ever seen. The gardens are laid out beautifully but not much in bloom this time of year.Written July 30, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FlyingScotsman150Farnham, UK353 contributionsThis must have been quite a place when it was built. It's run as a venue for weddings etc now and could do with a little TLC in the garden. But that said, it is magnificent. Take care when driving up the hill to get to the Villa, the road is a nightmare with few passing places. Tip: pay a little extra to access the Villa for even better views and photo opportunities.Written January 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
