- Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,455 contributionsFontana del Porcellino is a small sculpture of a wild pig, located by the roadside, in a local market area. It is really nothing special apart from a tourist curiosity. People can touch the boar's nose for "good luck" and donate some coins.Written December 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EyekaytooLeverkusen, Germany3,204 contributionsWe left my wife here as the rest of the family made our slow and weary way up the the Piazza Michelangelo. On the way back down we were all grateful for the slight coolness lent by the cascading water here. Particularly thankful were our two dogs who lapped up the water as we took a break to catch our breath and decide what to do about evening dinner.Written September 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,455 contributionsLa Fontana Di Benvenuto Cellini is located about mid-way on the Ponte Vecchio. Cellini was a 16th century sculptor and author. - BradHong Kong, China182,555 contributionsThese are two fountains that flank the equestrian statue of Ferdinando I at Piazza Santissima Annuziata. They are the work of Italian sculptor Pietro Tacca and were erected on the square in 1641. They are considered masterpiece works of Mannerism with a marine theme.
At each fountain you will see pairs of sea monsters, back to back, from which water pours downward from their mouths into elongated basins which creatively have upward tilting, creature-like mouths of their own. From these mouths spout upward flows of water also falling into the basins. It is a clever and beautiful fountain design that achieves balance and symmetry. Well worth spending a few minutes to enjoy if your are a fan of fountain and sculpture.Written April 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. At the sides of the fountain base there are two lion heads from which water spills into two small shell basins as well. Have a look while sightseeing in the area.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,455 contributionsFontana dello Sprone caught our eye as we were heading towards Ponte Santa Trinita. The fountain is located at the corner of two streets just about one street block away from the bridge. It is a shell shaped construction which was erected in the 1600s. It has undergone a few reconstructions since that time due to damage. It is quite interesting and worth a couple of minutes stop.Written November 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SoCalOregonianMurrieta, CA10,353 contributionsThis fountain located next to the courtyard of the Pitti Palace, above the entrance to the Boboli gardens was constructed in 1641. It is a large single basin design with a 2-tier central water feature. It is decorated with cherubs and around the base of the stairs on the fountain are half shells that give the fountain its name as they look like artichoke leaves. The day we visited the fountain was not in operation.Written September 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
