The Uffizi Gallery is a bit of a warren, and loads of people looking for their group and starting gate. Expect some queues no matter what.
Our guide Thomaszo was very well informed and took us seamlessly from one section to another, explaining the significance of the rooms and the paintings / sculptures. The only problem was the earphones, or rather earphone. With the constant chatter around us, it was difficult to catch all he said. A phone in each ear is necessary. If you have your own, use them in his machine.
There were so many interesting things to see, perhaps the highlight being Botticelli s Birth of Venus. He pointed out other paintings showing the same muse.
This tour lasted 90 mins, which I do feel is a little short for the price I paid. Considering the excellent tour of Florence was the same price and lasted twice as long. However, I cannot stress how useful it is to have a personal guide (there were only 6-7 in this group).
There is much else to see there another time, and if you are an art buff you will want to spend more time with individual paintings to appreciate them fully.
If you see nothing else, look for the ‘hidden’ room, with its ceiling full of mother of pearl
