What travelers are saying
- Lauren K5 contributionsWhat an incredible shop and restaurant!
The selection and variety is fantastic and the staff is so warm and friendly. Antonio was so helpful and made sure we tried the best of everything. Would highly recommend stopping for a meal, a drink and then buy some souvenirs to take home!Written September 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Shop owner spent quite some time with me even though I only bought a relatively inexpensive item. They were very proud of their work with good reason.Written October 8, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I knew I wanted a pupo Siciliano – one of those wonderful hand made puppets that once upon a time were on every corner, fighting the Saracens and saving Damsels in Distress… So, when planning the trip to Sicily, I reserved half a day for this market, created more than a 100 years ago: it started as a row of stands & primitive sheds and eventually expanded to its current size. A lot of junk is featured, but also, just like in the French Marche aux puces, you can suddenly run into some authentic treasure. This happened to me: I found a PUPO SICILIANO which, after some negotiations, became my own at a fraction of the price I was prepared to pay. Whether your interest is in art, furniture or curiosities, you’ll be sure to find something to make your day. Be aware, that almost all of them close for the usual siesta (1 to 4 or 5) and carry cash with you, almost nobody wants credit cards. Type “mercato delle pulci” in your GPS and it will take you there. It was about 20 min walk from Grand Hotel Wagner (separate review).Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris PManchester, UK300 contributionsGreat bar, not far from Via Roma and near loads of other larger bars. It has a terrace outside to sit and relax. There's a decent selection of Italian craft beers on tap and the people running the bar are friendly. When we were there on Saturday night, it was a very mixed, local crowd - couples, families, tifosi returning from the football. Quite a different atmosphere to the more raucous bars around the corner.Written May 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas LiamMontreal, Canada382 contributionsA bit outside the historic/tourist center of Palermo and closer to where the locals live. We came here on our last morning in the wonderful city that is Palermo because I had read about the quality ceramics being produced here. We were in search of one-of-a-kind souvenirs and boy were we spoiled.
The owner (I am so sad I never got his name, but he was so kind and clearly proud of his shop) did not speak any English, so we communicated through google translate. He explained the style/origin/use of all the different ceramics in his store. The icing on top was that he took us to the back of his shop to show us where everything his made, there we found a woman painting each piece individually by hand. You could see what the pieces looked like from stage to stage.
Then he took us further into the back and showed us the kiln. He asked me to take a picture of him with his work, and I was only too happy to oblige. It was wonderful to see an artist in his element. What an amazing experience I won't soon forget.
Finally, when we were back in the shop and had selected the items we wanted to purchase, and he had carefully wrapped each one individually for our flight home, he gave us a discount on everything! He showed us that the price would have been 50 Euros, and he gave it to us for 45 Euros. This final act of kindness sealed the deal for us and I hope tourists like myself will continue to support this wonderful man, his artform and his business.Written May 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FormbyEdLiverpool, UK11 contributionsMy wife and I spent a pleasant half an hour in this small shop-cum-workshop, chatting with Vincenzo and choosing a couple of models of local churches. The finely detailed models are all reasonably priced and make superb souvenirs or gifts. - BarryD213Spain45 contributionsIt is very difficult to beat the wine selection and service found at Enoteca Picone. I was told by one of the employees there that this establishment is 70 years old and has the best wine selection south of Rome. i believe it! Funny, you enter Enoteca Picone and you'd think yo were in Bavaria, but not so...smack in the middle of Palermo. I have tried many Enotecas in Palermo and this is my favorite. A must for all wine drinkers. The tastings are not to be missedWritten November 9, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amanda V106 contributionsAnd friend and I brought our daughters here for a day trip and shopping. This was my second time visiting but first time with children. The girls were inspired by all the shops and artists and pleasantly worn out from walking up and down the stairs. If your toddlers are a bit rambunctious, I’d avoid taking them into some of the shops unless you want to buy a lot of broken ceramics. But, if you have a child that can manage holding hands with Mom/Dad and you want some beautiful pictures, I highly recommend visiting the town, stairs and shops for an unforgettable time!Written August 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
