We stayed in Nicolosi to be able to drive to Refugio Sapienza (1700m) easily. Only 18 kms away. The road is quite wide, no major hairpins. We are with a motorcycle. Easy ride up. When we arrived at the parking, there was someone on the parking lot who made us pay 5 euros for the day to park the motorcycle. We decided not to take the cable car as the cost is $50 euros per person. We climbed up from behind the cable car to the arrival of the cable car at approximately 2500 metres. It's quite a steep hike. It took us 1hour and 15 minutes, but we are in pretty good shape. Most people would take 1h30min minimum. We took a break at the coffee shop, then continued hiking up to 3000 metres. It's easier than the first part but longer (another hour and a half). There was quite a lot of wind after 2500 meters. Absolutely worth the walk up to 3000 meters (beautifuly scenery and craters to see) and you can do this on your own, without a guide as we did. After 3000 meters. a guide is necessary as you start being in the lava fields with fumes and treacherous paths. You would need good hiking shoes after 3000 meters as well. We walked with running shoes up to 3000 meters, but hiking shoes would have been better (for us, it's a space issue in the motorcycle). Just bring lots of water as it gets very dusty when windy and it's still a challenging hike where you would need to keep hydrated, especially if it gets warm. Yesterday, the temperature at the parking lot, despite the wind was around 28 degrees. Check weather forecast. In the end, the day costed us 5 euros cash. If you are in good shape, schedule extra time to hike up like we did to 3000 meters, save money and enjoy the special feeling of walking in a volcanic area. Some people we met did the same thing as we did with cable car and guide to the 3000 meter mark (did not walk up to the crater) and paid 91 euros per person for half a day. Alternatively, just take the cable car and then hike up to 3000 meters. We just find that 50 euros is extremely expensive for this cable car, but it's a matter of having time and being fit. Beautiful and challenging day overall that left us happy and tired !

A lovely garden to walk around in day or night time..a nice little fountain and bandstand as a good viewpoint.
Nice to have a relaxing walk, drink or something to eat and relax

I dont remember when we went there but I would like to write this comment! I and my boyfriend love to explore different places therefore we wanted to see this fascinating place (even from outside, it looks amazing)!

His favorite part is the greenhouse, we saw his favorite fish there, he likes recording water movements too, we really enjoyed our moment, if I can find some photos I will share! Enjoy too!💚🎉

Our flat was just next to this beach - a dream with a rooftop balcony - priceless! The sea here is quite clean and contains several different fishes, crabs and sea urchin - those are in the crevices. It's highly recommend to wear swimming shoes.

Le Capannine is a nice lido, but it's quite far from the centre and you definitely need a car to get there. There are some bars and a bistro that has good food with a decent price. At night they also have parties and it's an amazing outdoor club.

We went there yesterday (lunedi, monday); it was not crowded which I prefer like this! Entrance with 2 place and one umbrella we paid 25 for 2 people, for me it was ok not super convenient but ok…

The sand and sea were clean, area was great but I do not prefer this kind of shallow sea, if you have children I guess this is the best sea, it was not cold too, there were so many people who work there and they were super kind too!

There are some areas to play games like volleyball etc.

Going there was also easy with busses if you dont have car! There is a bus station in front of the place and there is a bus (D)! Enjoy!🎉

Public beaches south of the city are called 'spiaggia libera'. There often is a parking lot for cars, and a bus stop. Spiaggia Libera 1 is 2.4 km from the cathedral and can easily reached on foot, though the route along a highway and industrial zone is not attractive.

Once you are there, you can continue along the beach all the way to the airport area and beyond. The coastal road running parallel to the beach can not easily be accessed. I had to climb over a fence once to cross a stream and return to the beach. Many private properties, but also restaurants, discos and bars are efficiently fenced off.

Reading the reviews I had expected a garbage dump. However, this turned out to be NOT the case. Most of the beaches were reasonably clean and the views of Etna spectacular.

If you are on foot, avoid returning walking along the highway. It is risky and very unpleasant. I also did not manage to rejoin the beach, because of all the fences. Alternatively take a bus in the airport area.

Its just by the airport so you can see planes take on. Sand as sand :) as its not season time we foynd it rather getting ready and need a lot of tidying. Still it was great! I bet in summer people can get great view of Etna. The far distance you can see the port Catania. We had ordered some food there which was ok. But nothing special. The staff however very friendly and polite.

This beach could be a 5 but it has been abusive for humans leaving lots of rubbish around. This beach is free you don't need to pay any entrance or fee. Next to it is the same beach and they charge for the entrance over EUR20 per person. Giving you a bed over 20 metres away from the beach. They don't allow you to even stand around.
This beach is suitable for families with kids because is shallow, also is is sandy. Bring your drinks and food. To buy something is a bit far away. Sometimes some guys pass selling water and drinks. Here is not trees or anywhere to find some kind of shade.

This is a very small park just outside the city walls of historic Catania (between Uzeda gate and railway tracks). There is a pond with a fountain. Saw some homeless people and customers from a nearby MacDonalds, but the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. Good for a short break.
