Excellent short tour. Tours in English (think it was a 12 noon but best check), you only see a small part of the palace (much of it is private) but worth seeing.

The duomo dedicated to Sant' Agata dominates the piazza with it's ornate baroque façade designed by Vaccanni. It is open 7.30am-12.30pm and again 4-7pm. Beautiful interior so well worth a visit.

Church with attached convent just across the street from the cathedral that is worth a visit. It's free to enter but you pay if you want to go up onto the roof - we didn't but it is supposed to have excellent views. Designed by Vaccarini as is the duomo - it has an elongated octagonal shape with a large glass chandelier beneath the cupola. Also a venue for classical concerts which would be good if on when you visit.

Not a lot to see inside, the best part is you can walk around the top. The price is 3 euros each, worth it for the view. One way up and the same down. Not for the faint hearted. It is 126 steps up approx. If my counting was correct.

Like steeping back through time to walk here! Short but beautiful street lined with Baroque buildings and churches - hardly anyone there when we visited. Worth a look.

Stunning late Baroque church and former monastery that faces Via Crociferi. As with most buildings in the city, it was destroyed in the 1693 earthquake and the rebuilding took almost a century. Beautiful architecture including the Angels' Staircase and the ornate frescoed ceiling and walls of the church. Excellent information using a QR code on your phone. Highly recommend a visit - open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and some Sundays but check before you visit as times may vary.

This church stands on an ancient pagan temple dedicated to Proserpina. It was originally built at the beginning of the Christian era, and it was rebuilt several times.
When Catania was the seat of the royal court (1302-1410), this was the Royal chapel.

The current appearance dates from the 18th century, when it was rebuilt after an earthquake. The vault of the main nave has beautiful paintings dating form the end of the 19th century.

We were a large group of guests. Environment is extraordinary. You are inside of V-VI century Bizantine church which has great walls made of stone. Service and food is delicious. Strongly recommended!

Named after the Spanish duke Uzeda, who was governor of Sicily when the devastating 1693 earth quacke destroyed eastern Sicily. The Baroque architecture of the gate building resembles that of many of the reconstructed buildings around, but for instance also of the Benedictine monastery.

It must have been quite a sight before the construction of the railway on its south side blocking its link with the sea. The use of lava stone and other gray materials makes the gate look a bit sombre.

Convitto Nazionale Mario Cutelli is a historical national boarding school locates near the cruise pier in Catania. The typical Baroque architectural style building standing on the small square with a nice statue at the fountain in front is one of the tourist spot.

The pink house is stuck on the corner of quite a tired neighbourhood in Catania (let’s face it most of Catania looks tired)
We walked past it on the way up to the museum commemorating the allied invasion in 1943
Worth stopping and taking a pic but don’t go out of your way

Central Palace on Piazza Dell' Universita has been given to University of Catania. It is used mainly for administration functions. You are allowed to enter the internal courtyard to view the Baroque building compound and to take photos if you want to. Nice floor pattern at the courtyard.
