We booked our visit with pianoprovenzana.it and were sent vouchers for our visit. 78 Euros per person and payable only when we arrived at the ticket office, not in advance. The vouchers enabled us to go to the front of the ticket line at Rifugio Sapienza and this saved us hours in the queue. Parking for our car was free.

We took the funivia to the top and then took the 4WD buses up the to the crater. Pepe, our guide, took us on foot for a 40 minute walk up to 2960 meters and gave us lot of information.

Great views! We had a wonderful lunch at Acanthus overlooking the ocean. I can recommend the grilled octopus with grilled potatoes. There is parking next to the restaurant. The proprietor was very welcoming.

Scala dei Turchi is quite small and there are just a handful of places to eat high above the beach. Well worth a stop after the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.

After an e bike ride through flat, rocky but amazing landscape from Favignana, we came around a corner to find this amazing beach... the water was fresh, clear and the brightest of blues. Spectacular!

Hundreds of skeletons are displayed, some in better, so in worse condition.
Most of them are dressed up according to their time, so it's interesting from that perspective, as there are dead from all walks of life.
Obviously, makes you think about your own mortality and life.
    Taking pictures is not allowed.
The site is off the beaten path, so you have to take a bus (15-20 minutes drive from the city center), and walk in a strange route to get there.

Really great experience about 45 minutes outside of Taormina. And easy and pretty drive through the country takes you to the mountains to see the gorges. We did the walking, splash pad and basic visit, but wish we had just done the basic.
The walking path takes you to the Venus Source which is beautiful and gives you above views of the canyon below, but the real star is the gorge itself. Taking the lift down makes it an easy trek for old and young. With our 5 and 8 year old we were able to work our way up quite a bit through the canyon.
The kids had swim shoes which I would recommend. My feet were torn up by the end. The water is VERY cold but very refreshing on a hot August day. Fight through it and work your way up the canyon. It’s worth it.
Skip the splash pad. We did it for the kids but it was way too expensive for what it was.

This was my first active volcano experience (besides Hawaii from afar), and it blew me away! I definitely plan to return, and to seek out other volcanoes as well. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen, and I've seen A LOT!

Ideally, you should spend at least 2 nights on the island to maximize the chances of seeing the eruption in case the craters are obscured by clouds one night. I inquired with Magmatrek when I arrived at the end of October, and they were sold out that night, and only had 1 spot available for the next night (which I took). So, plan ahead.

I think most reviews don't emphasize how amazing the volcano is even during the day! Seeing the rocks tumble down into the sea is mesmerizing. I wish I had arrived to the 290m viewpoint earlier, at least 1 hour before sunset!

I would recommend doing both the hiking group tour to 400m *and* going up by yourself to 290m (or wherever you feel like stopping - there are other places you can stop at, like the Observatory, but the higher you go the better the views will be, although even the "worst" are unbelievable). This way, you can get the pros of both the group and independent experience.

Pros of a tour: you get as close as possible (400m altitude), and you get some cool information along the way. Cons: you can't customize the experience; for example if you're seeking a quiet, contemplative experience like I was, that's not possible in a group of 20 people. If you want to arrive earlier or stay for longer, or hike faster/slower, you cannot do that, and for many this is a once in a lifetime experience that I would not recommend short-changing.

Pros of going alone: the main advantage for me is that you can spend more time at the top (arrive earlier, and can stay as long as you want, provided you have snacks, drinks, and WARM windproof CLOTHES). But you can only get to 290m, which is still very impressive but measurably less so than the 400m. The 290m viewpoint is still not completely serene, but you have more freedom to move around, go higher or lower, stay longer, etc. If you value solitude, this is an unforgettable experience, especially since during a full moon you can walk down the volcano without a light for the most part.

If I were to pick one experience vs. the other, I'm not sure which I would pick! They're both awesome in their own unique way. To get the advantages of both in one epic trip, I would definitely hire a private guide in order to arrive to 400m earlier in the day, and hopefully have the freedom to stay a bit longer than the other tour groups. That would give you the best experience possible, especially if enjoying this majestic natural experience in (relative) tranquility is important to you.

We went as a part of a big group and bought the 2 day ticket deal.

The theme park was good, especially the high-speed roller coasters, but oh my god isn't the aquapark the best one I've been to yet!

You'll definitely find a slide for yourself, no matter how brave you are! The selection of attractions is astounding.

The place is also very easy to navigate and the queues were very reasonable in August.

Just one advice - bring your own food as the prices are what you'd expect from a place like this.

Our Guide was very friendly and explained us the surrounding and showed us plants special for this area. The highlight was to take a dip in one of the pools with clean, clear water. So refreshing. The tour was easy to go.
Really great Landscape with beautiful views.

We managed to go up on a green light, which was red when we returned - so there are opportunities to climb. Would recommend going early in the day - earlier the better (before 10am) to miss the heat of the day.

This is a fabulous place - very off the beaten track, but well worth the effort. It is in a canyon, and you can approach from the north or south side. We took the North route - it is 30 minutes hard trekking down a steep and rocky path - I believe the south route may be longer but easier (not checked by us). At the bottom are fantastic waterfalls and swimming holes. To get to the best swimming area requires quite a bit of clambering over rocks and along narrow ledges 4 or 5 metres up, scary but do-able for two sixty-somethings. The reward is swimming in crystal clear water with fish and tadpoles. We stayed for several hours. The climb back up is of course even harder - but it took us the same amount of time. You need good trekking footwear and beach shoes. Toilets are 'a natura' on the north side and at the bottom (ie, none). There is a cafe at the top on the south side. Many of the routes shown on their maps are closed for safety reasons, so trekking along the canyon is very limited, but that did not spoil our enjoyment.

This cave hosted several pups of monk seals over the centuries, then the seal abandoned the place becuase of the human distrbs, but now one or two specimens are back from time to time. Have a look from the sea, but please avoid to enter into the cave.

The caves, in the past, were usual places for the rare monk seal and now it seems that one specimen is sometimes swimming there. The water is absolutely transparent, it is nice to snorkel in the area where it is possible.

Well - quite a trip. It's a basic cable car except that it's going up Mount Etna. It's well organised and easy to get on and off. It stopped now and then - presumably for helping some people to get on. The views all round are impressive and it takes you way up the mountain where there's a cafe and shop. Well worth a trip.
On the way back down it was quite windy and so we were rocking around quite a bit. I don't know how windy it needs to get before they can't run it but it must have been near to that. Enjoyable though.

There is an interesting nature combined with an interesting history. This is a nice canon. Sometimes you have to climb to its top, other times you have to descend to the river in order to continue further. The tour is difficult, but if you choose your own pace, a beautiful landscape awaits you.
