Best day, stunning hike with breathtaking views of coves and mountains..
we spent a few hours walking and stopped off at two of the Calas for much needed cooling off in the crystal clear water
Hiking is hilly but paths are well maintained albeit rocky
Definitely need trainers or hiking boots,p and plenty of water and snacks as there is nothing in the reserve once you enter we made the mistake of not bringing enough and had to cut our time on the beach short after hours in the sun
A must visit in the area

We did the Tour in English, and the information was great. We watched a video that explained the process, and then walked the Salt Mine and the information was explained again in the real setting. I can't think of many tours that offered this kind of experience.

This is an absolute must see when in Sicily. The nature here is quite spectacular and so is the wild life. Also the paths are very well laid out and makes sure that you se all the sights on the route. Especially taking a rest at the sanctuary at one end of the path overlooking the sea in total peace and quiet is a lovely experience. As scandinavians is was also a big thing to see flamingos in the wild. We have never been in an area like this, and as a hiker and nature lover this was an absolute favorite experience on our trip to Sicily. There is a small admission fee and parking fee here, but it is worth the spend. Only regret is that we didn't visite one of the small restaurants there, because they looked very cozy.

This was a quick stop, but still really cool to look at.
Just a stop on the road, walked a but to check out how they extracted the salt from the water.

Had a truly amazing trip to Cavegrande. Was worried about the walk but it was really no problem for 4 of us including a 7 & 11 yr old.
Is essentially a 2k walk downhill (40mins) thru amazing scenery and then you come to the most idyllic setting of ravines and waterfalls. The water was absolutely gorgeous and some great jumps for the kids.
The walk back up was slightly more arduous but took less than an hour and was more than worth it for the natural scenery.
& it didn’t cost a penny, which is almost unheard of on holiday.
    Loved it.

Very nice place and you have to support it. Turtles found in the area are rescued here and then released in nature.

Lovely place to visit for a half day. Although we’d seen tips to walk up to the public entrance for a cheaper option we opted to park in the main car park (voluntary donation for parking) and pay the entrance fee of 13 euros each which included the elevator and access to the botanical gardens. We enjoyed a wander round the gardens which gave you lovely spots to look down into the gorges and took about an hour although we didn’t do the longer of the routes offered.
The gorge itself was spectacular and although bracing the water wasn’t as cold as expected. It is quite forceful in places, mainly pebbly underfoot with some slippy submerged rocks in places, Great fun to walk up the gorge and the rock formations are stunning. It wasn’t too busy whilst we were there and I doubt the experience would be different if the water was packed with people.
I’d definitely opt for a guided trip next time where full gear and helmets are provided because that looked brilliant to be able to go further up and then flow down with the water.

Top tip - flip flops are not a good idea in this water!! Saw several floating off downstream!! Shop sells proper water shoes.

2nd tip - when we visited the toilets at the site were accessible before you had to pay for entry, there is a snack bar in the bottom of the gorge itself and looked like toilets were available too

Last tip - either take valuables in a good waterproof bag for in a backpack or get a holiday lockbox to attach to the fences in the gorge

We drove down two very bumpy long roads to nowhere before finally finding the correct route to Torre Salsa. Be careful following google maps as it will take you to the wrong place more than once. Don’t drive down any dirt roads unless you are sure you’re in the right place... the right road is dirt though so don’t be fooled! Pot holes a many ...

Best thing to do is set your gps for Bovo Marina " Spiaggia Pubblica " torre salsa carpark you should get to the right place!

Once you finally get there .. it’s the most beautiful beach. Clear water, fish swimming around your feet, warm and sunny. It’s worth the drive. A must see on Sicily 🌞 We had such a good day 🐠

We visited the nature reserve on an overcast day at beginning of October. The coastal scenery with the little lakes, which are changing forms depending on winds and tides, is astonishing. The sanctuary of Madonna Nera of Tindari seems to watch over the beauty spot from above. Marinello was almost deserted with all bars and restaurants closed and holiday appartments boarded up, it had the flair of an abandoned seaside village.

Just did the summit ascent; 1hr from the upper carpark (aka "the pond") to the top if you don't dawdle; the rope is more like 4m, but easy. (And an hour back.)

Then, did the loop trail (from the pond) on the northeast shore (visiting the tank (carved out of rock) and the "ancient Greek city entrance" stairs/tunnel/cave) back to the "tuna cannery" (though you can't drive to it; there's a barrier at the carpark 15min along the shore from it) … another 1.5hrs to the “tuna”-side carpark.

I visited this places that I didn't know before and I discovered so charming and natural place, quiet and peaceful. The biodiversity is one of the caractheristics of this valley, so many variety of trees, rocks, landscape...and the donkeys...so cute. A place to see.

Spent an afternoon here and walked most of the length of the beach, from the main parking area down towards Eric
Eraclea Minoa. Hardly anyone else on the beach. Waves were up so not safe to swim - sense it may often be like this.

The source of the river - a pool fringed by huge papyrus - is beautiful. The riverside walk is pretty. Makes a nice contrast with all the arid mountainous countryside further inland.
