- Rick PPort Huron, MI348 contributionsBe sure to think of all the history which has past through the grand canal as you are walking by or traveling on. Simply staggering.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rick PPort Huron, MI348 contributionsThe number one must see while in Venice. Be sure to get a tour guide to help explain the truly fascinating history of this great region.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christopher PWantage, UK67 contributionsIt was a warm sunny day, the place was heaving. We went up the tower lovely view of Venice and the other islands.
I hope it does not sink but they had water seeping up in the piazza.
The history was amazing , lovely churches food outlets and shops.Written October 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can only go up and down by lift, which was fine by us. The views all around are quite stunning. Be prepared for it to be busy when you are up there.Written October 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ian1811Scotland, UK633 contributionsBe aware that the Opera house is closed on certain days/times. Downside is not enough audio guides and being directed to use QR code for your phone and the WiFi not coping.
The rest is quite amazing to see and hear about the history of the place. We were lucky that there was a pianist practicing while visiting so got a bit of show and theme of what it might be like for a performance.Written October 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The bridge is packed with tourists, in the six days we were in Venice and stayed close to the bridge we never saw it quiet.Written November 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark6,223 contributionsWe’re lucky enough to be staying in the heart of the Cannaregio district, and we couldn’t be happier to be in such a calm and beautiful area just a 2-kilometer walk from St. Mark’s Square.
The restaurants and bars are cozier and more affordable—we imagine this must be what experiencing Venice in the old days would have felt like.
Both day and night, the neighborhood is a great place to stay and an excellent photo spot.Written October 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Visited in December and it soon became to too crowded to really enjoy the museum which is a relatively small collection in a series of smallish villa rooms. The collection is very impressive and the audio guide highlights Peggy Guggenheim's distinct personality, relations with the artists, and perspectives of the artists themselves. Lovely gift shop nearby.Written December 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mr. worldwide charts49 contributionsBooking the slot was only slightly convoluted: you go on their website, pick a day and time, hope that there are enough slots left (as in, enough space for the amount of people you want to bring), and have those folks’ names ready to put on the booking. Times start at 10:15am and run through 4:15pm. After booking, you will only get an email confirmation the day before, so screenshot your booking page. I’d book in advance, and book knowing that Venice is a city that is not super easy to navigate even with GPS.
You can explore the rest of the store if you would like before or after. There’s elevators that take you to the fourth floor (where the landing area to the terrace is) and back but they’re kinda hidden away.Written December 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Access for visitors is free.
Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore is owned by the order of Benedictine monks. Its church was built between 1566 and 1610. Reconstruction and development work of the abbey extended in the centuries that followed. There is also a bell tower that I didn't know I could climb in. I missed a beautiful view of the city.
The interior of the church is decorated with paintings by Tintoretto in particular. Interestingly, Benedictine monks kept strict control over how the interior of the church was decorated and did not allow it to be left out of the hands of wealthy families in Venice, as is the case in many of the city's churches. Only two such cases are known here: the chapel to the right of the great altar belongs to the Bollani family, and the altar to the left of the sanctuary belongs to the Morosini family – by the way, one of the most beautiful palaces with a façade on the Grand Canal belongs to this family.Written October 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark6,223 contributionsAfter you’ve had your fill of the major sights—St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, the Grand Canal—where throngs of tourists and overpriced souvenirs dominate, it’s time to head over to the Dorsoduro district.
Here, the streets are cozier, the crowds thinner, the osterias better, and the prices lower… naturally, as this is where the locals prefer to spend their time.
The only downside is that you might regret not staying here instead. We certainly did, and we’re based in Cannaregio, which isn’t bad at all. But Dorsoduro stands out with its authentic, local vibe.Written October 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. An iconic landmark not to be missed - at least from the outside.Written September 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you are standing in the square or sitting in a cafe, time it so you can hear the bell.Written September 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. P2 contributionsOkay, I'm generally pretty skeptical of jewelers...ranking right up there with used car salesmen playing games and trying to sell you something you don't want.
This was NOT my experience with Marco and his brother (who are 3rd generation owners) who own the store. Marco listened to what I wanted to get my wife, he asked good questions, and then then steered me away from the higher priced items to something more classic. I was shocked. His brother happened to be in the store that same day and he actually does the carvings on the cameos I was considering buying.
After sharing several stories, Marco sent me an electronic link that has the item I purchased for my wife's birthday, who was made by his grandfather and is over 100 years old (I said he steered me away from the most expensive, not the cheapest!). Im excited to give her this cameo for her birthday long with the story that goes with it.
I left the store feeling like a friend and that I had the rare experience of meeting a jewelers who was ore concerned about my needs than their bottom line. I will definitely go back next time I'm in Venice and can't recommend them enough.Written December 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great experience, very enjoyable. Loved the setting and moving rooms between acts and nice to receive complimentary Prosecco in the interval.
We booked the tickets for La Traviata whilst in England , and they emailed to confirm and further email to confirm that we would be attending whilst in Venice, very professional.
Besides the great performance, it was a delight to be in this building the palazzo barbarigo-minotto.
Highly recommend this experience.Written May 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
