Taking a Vaporetto ride along the Grand Canal was a highlight of our trip. The views of the Venetian buildings from the water are unmatched

It's the big body of water that surround the islands that make up the city. When the tide is high, the lagoon can flood parts of the city. There are massive efforts underway to protect the city from sea rise. The lagoon's waters are not so clean and they are busy with lots of boat traffic.

A promenade that started at Ponte di Rialto and continues after Riva del Ferro ends. Like the other walks along the Grand Canal, it is lined with many shops, bars, restaurants and hotels. There is also a Vaporetto stop here for Rialto.

Riva dei Sette Martiri is a lovely waterfront area, as all the waterfront is along the Grande Canal. We took a stroll along the waterfront and all I can say is every bit is as good as the one next to it. Around the Riva dei Sette Martiri is a nice and quiet park where you can sit and relax.

This is a main canal from The Grand Canal to the Lagoon. It is the route the vaporettos takes going to Murano/Burano and other points in the lagoon. Along the entire canal run, on both sides two Fondamente this allows easy access to the buildings along the canal. There are also 2 unique bridges that cross, Ponte delle Guglie (bridge of spires) and Ponte dei Tre Archi (bridge of 3 arches). Well worth wandering along the banks of the canal to get a taste of local Venice.

We have loved this part of the city since our first visit about 18years ago. It is a very attractive canal side walk which runs from The Getto area to Strada Nova.

Great neighbourhood with majority of true venetians who live here, its great it still retains its original atmosphere, you will see locals going about their everyday life.

You will find local shops, small food shops, local wine bars and several great restaurants, like Di Rioba which is fantastic.

Great to wander along here on a sunny day and live life like a true venetian

We always seem to be walking in this area several times during our yearly visit to the city.

Totally fascinating, after leaving the huge busy square of campo s barnaba this is a smaller more local area. A great attraction on the canal is the fruit and vegetable barge, we always stop and look with envy at the fabulous array, look so tem;ping to buy, and the small bridge - do not miss the two footprints at the top

If you want to see/visit a still-functioning gondola workshop, there is one facing the Rio de S. Trovaso, right next to the beautiful San Trovasa church. Don`t miss it if you are in the area!

Strange how one small typical canals changes its name after a bridge.
This small quite canal is full of interest with great buildings some in severe decay, once under the bridge you can see the lagoon in the distance, they turning right towards our hotel on the Grande Canale you are into the very busy part of the city with masses of tourists

Pretty small canal in a quiet area of Dorsoduro.
Lined with a fondamenta, a fabulous restaurant called Entocea di Artisti where we have dinner, and interesting shops.
    The is a small bridge.

Falsely Marketed NOT Boutique in any shape or form!

Dark, damp apartment, hard beds, awful pillows, pieces of the kitchen fall off when you open them.
Dirty rusty tiles on bathroom floor
Courtyard dirty, thick dirt on table, pealing paint, dead plants
Cheap plastic hangers which other guests have left (again supposed to be 'boutique')

This place is NOTHING like its photos.

We left after one night - after many emails and proof this place is not what is advertised we were promised three nights money back (over £1000) weeks have passed and nothing - hence my review!

See photos to show my comments are correct - I cried on arrival as it was a much awaited trip and was so disappointed with what created us.

This long canal connects the Canal Grande with the Rio San Agostin, Rio de San Stin and Rio de San Polo. For such a long, canal only 4 bridges cross it. Not much in this area, but the Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini and the eponymous bridge from which you can take a few snapshots of this canal.

When we leave our hotel just seconds from this canal. We cross an old wooden bridge to the campo of san salute

The canal connects the grande canale with the guidecca canal on the other side of dorsoduro

It has two wood bridges, on to the access to calle bastion and accademia beyond and the other to a very beautiful venetian 5 star hotel.
