modest from outside, magnificent inside. The Church contains the Iron crown made out from a nail used to crucify Jesus according to documents , The crown was worn by Mary Theresa the Austrian Empress.

Well here you see the tomb with the bones of Saint Augustinus (4th century) of the "Confessions", who really introduced the idea of "original sin" into catholic theology. The outside of this romanic church is decorated with a few round ceramic dishes, which partly originated in Muslim countries , some have even Arabic inscriptions. Times have changed.

This is a large monument in a park area across from the police station and next to the Catholic University. An elderly man with a feather in his hat saw me taking pictures and came up to explain what I was looking at. He said it is the San Sebastián war memorial to the 5000 Milanese soldiers killed in WW1 and WW2. He pointed out the entrance where one can walk down inside the memorial. One level down is a memorial to soldiers who died in WW1 and the second level down for soldiers who died in WW2. You see flags and flowers below in the middle and around that, rows of names in the marble slats. This may not be worth a separate trip, but definitely worth stopping by if you are visiting the Basilica Ambrogio which is right around the corner from this memorial.

The Duomo of Pavia is a nice sight. One can observe the architecture and art that this place has to offer, while walking at the pretty center of the city. The small square on its front gathers plenty of people during the night as well.

12th C romanesque church near the covered bridge. The interior artwork is quite interesting, including the paintings of religious figures on the pillars.

Built on an Austrian garrison barrack, the Palce hosts gardens and cloisters with statue of scientists and other personalities. The cloisters are ideal place to practice arts. The Palace host the Hall of the 400, the main hall and the Volta Hall where the first prototype of the battery was presented to Napoleon Bonaparte by Alexander Volta

Pavia used to be the city with more than 150 Medieval Towers, but nowadays only a dozen can be admired.
The three towers of Piazza Leonardo da Vinci from the 12th century have remained intact behind the distinguished courtyards of the University, the two of Via Luigi Porta and that of Piazza Borromeo.
The clock tower is very characteristic, about 40 meters high and about 6 meters wide at the base.
Famous for the disastrous event is the Civic Tower, of the eleventh century, which collapsed in1989, causing the death of some people.

Our guide only made a superficial tour of the place. Big in scope , a courtyard , a museum which we never got to enter , and lots of history related to the city behind it.

We were headed for the Ponto Coperto and decided to walk along the riverbank to get there. It's very tranquil and there was a small place for boats but not sure if you could hire them. Relaxing with a bit of winter sun.

We had a great museum visit but the artwork was not the highlight. The beautiful castle with porticos was lovely. So many details. I would have loved to see it in its heyday!
