This is only a 15 minute walk from Stresa. We spent a lovely couple of hours walking around, stroking the goats, and seeing all the other animals. Disappointed that some of the cages are far too small considering the enormous size of the park. Be careful of the white peacocks if you have a snack at the cafe..they are too friendly and nearly took my food our of my hand!..very cute to see though!

It’s an enchanting walk in the forest. Not many views of the lake, but it’s peaceful and beautiful. There are occasional encounters with Piemontese culture and lifestyle. Taking the hike in early October, I picked up a pocket-full of chestnuts to roast at my apartment.

Go by the cable car, the views on the way up are stunning. Lots of lovely walks and fantastic views. If you decide to walk back down, it is very steep and not a good surface.

I walked up to the gardens from Stresa (2h45 mins) via the VL1 hiking route. The gardens were nothing special, mostly rockeries with wild flowers, plus some grassy areas. Perhaps because it is so hot and dry, there wasn’t much colour and everything looked very parched. But the views!!!! The long, sweaty walk up hill in 30 degree heat was worth it for the views. Go to enjoy the views and you will be delighted, if you go expecting a beautiful garden you will be disappointed.
