Micaela arranged for her husband David to drive us there and back from our base in Stresa, as well as to drive us to the top of the Sacro Monte, which was an unexpected pleasure. Micaela’s explanations there as well as on the San Giulio island gave us a real appreciation of the history and significance of this special place. The village itself is lovely, and we enjoyed a lakeside lunch before Micaela’s private tour. She is truly a gifted guide and a charming, kind person. - Annette SBath, UK92 contributionsWhat a stunning garden to visit! We have visited a lot of gardens, but this is one of the best. We arrived by ferry from Stresa and the garden entrance is directly above the ferry terminal. Whilst we visited the dahlias were in bloom, all 300 of them! The greenhouse has Amazonian water lilies which were in flower. Behind the pond is a vertical wall of plants of all kinds. Further into the gardens there is a formal pond area which is planted with colourful bedding plants. There is also a cactus house and relaxation garden. The cafe is situated on the way in and has a good range of drinks and snacks. We spent nearly 3 hours enjoying the plants and lake views. - Stephen C1 contributionWe took a 3 hour tour with Giulia Ferrari and she is awesome! Giulia knows all the history of San Giulio including the chapels honoring St. Francis of Assisi. We also took a boat with her to the island of San Giulio to tour the church and the grounds of the convent there. We stopped for cappuccino at the cafe on the island and it was quaint with a gorgeous view. Giulia is very knowledgeable about the local area and gave reliable recommendations for good quality hotels, restaurants, and shopping in the region.
