Spent a day wandering little streets and tasting local cuisine. Enjoy some time on the beach to cool off on a hot summer day.

This is a fabulous place to go to get up close and personal with the Med on the Italian Riviera. It is immediately accessible from Nervi train station, and from the Nervi parks and it is close to the art galleries in the Nervi parks.

We kind of found this place accidentally. There are two "lifts" which go here, but it is much more fun strolling through the narrow lanes/steps of Genoa "Old Town" to get up here. Around the back was a great cafe as well...Cheap, good, honest food and friendly staff

The port area is big with plenty of seating areas. There is also plenty of shops, bars and restaurants around the area. Most people will go walking or running here. Very calm area to relax.

How often do you get to see a disused royal palace? So just by being one this is worth the visit. Interesting to see how the rooms changed their use over the years. Once you've got over all the formal stuff, the view from the terrace over the port is a good attraction. A couple of things: do check opening times because they seem to be all over the place and note that much of the palace is not open to the public so the visit doesn't take as long as you might think.

    It is a must
    All the palaces are wonderful
Try to get inside at least 2-3 palaces
You should walk along Garibadi street at night as well as on daylight

This is an amazing place to experience the reverence that Italians have for their dead family members. It also is a display of how much money there was in Genova during its prime days. In the same way that the wealthy built large homes to display wealth, they also built amazing mausoleums and statuary.

I got the ascensore balbi up the hill (entrance on via balbi, next to the big pharmacy on the corner) which was free.
The castle is almost directly in front as you come out of the station and I had a lovely wander around the grounds of the castle (free). The views across the city are great from up there. Instead of going in the castle I had a drink and some focaccia from the castle cafe and sat outside enjoying the views instead.
A lovely (and cheap!) way to spend an hour.

Ths is a very large church and, as you would expect, full of glitter and fine paintings. The remarkable thing is that, to those of us more accustomed to Gothic, the proportions and the space are so well designed that the golden bits actually add a splendid icing to the whole rather than detract with too much bling. You can take as much time as you like in here looking at details but it is the overall impression which is the most overwhelming.

An impressive street mixed with ancient architecture and modern shops. Nice place to be under the rain. One can appreciate beautiful historical buildings and buy what he needs along the way. There are many high-end stores but also some café and gelato shops with good music.
