Drink coffee in the square, learn its history and take in the beauty of Trieste. Walk across the road to see the bronze statues on the sea, and stroll to the canal, then back along the lovely shop lined streets. If you're lucky you may visit Trieste when a concert is happening in the square, and it's a great spot for New Year's Eve!

My husband and I went to Trieste for a couple of days and took a trip out to Miramare. It's really easy to get a bus from the centre of Trieste that goes directly to the castle so if you're without a car, fear not. FVG do an app that means you can get there without faffing about trying to find a place to buy a bus ticket. Anyway, the castle is beautiful. It's set in stunning grounds overlooking the Gulf of Trieste. To get to the castle you have to walk up the stairs from the marina (where the bus drops you off) and then take a stroll through the gardens. It's really picturesque. The entrance fee for the castle is inexpensive. It's well worth visiting because there are so many historical artefacts. Some beautiful renaissance paintings and lots of things to learn about. It takes a good couple of hours to walk round, if you take your time. My only criticisms is there aren't many places to sit, if you need to rest. It can get hot inside, as I don't think there is aircon. (I visited in summer before, it was stifling) Apart from those two things, I don't have any negative things to say. There's also a nice little cafe in the gardens. It can get quite busy so be prepared. Overall, a place definitely worth visiting at least once in your life.

The museum is free however a €3 audio guide helped bring the realities to life. This was a very informative stop and a must in Trieste to understand the history and experiences particularly in ww2. This is definitely worth seeing and learning about.

This is an amazing historical place to visit in Trieste! The volunteers that guide you through the tour are all well prepared and spread their enthusiasm to you in their explanations of the underground history of the city of Trieste. I highly recommend this tour of the tunnels to anyone who loves history!!
Thank you to all the volunteers who give their time freely..job well done!

Stunning location at the top of a hill overlooking Trieste.
We walked up from the town which is quite a difficult trek uphill on cobbled and uneven streets. However it was worth the effort. The Cathedral is beautiful and near to the ruins of the castle and the war memorial.

We felt like escaping the town and finding the beach so took a bus (which was included in the 24 hour bus ticket) to Barcola.
The beach is not sandy but is perfect for a hot day because there are wooded areas, with trees for shade and plenty of seats. We sat near the steps that lead into the sea.
Swimming is only for strong swimmers because the water is deep straight away. We had a great time swimming and relaxing before taking the bus back into town.
The beach was mostly full of locals and had a friendly atmosphere.

We were in Trieste for only two days in December so there are not many tours running. It is easy to do some of the main attractions by yourself. We walked up to the castle. It is a bit of a climb but not too strenuous. The views of Trieste from the parapets are beautiful even on a wintry day. My husband enjoyed the armoury.

Definitely must take a walk to the end of the pier, not just to see the incredible Adriatic but to turn around and look at the architecture along the quai.
