Buy a ticket at the luggage belts, and avoid others "sniffing around" your wallet, in the busier areas. Euro 14 per person. Trains depart each quarter of an hour. Validate your ticket when entering the platform, before entering the train (important). Half hour journey.

They say you can request a refund but it’s obfuscated by so many hoops to jump through that it’s impossible. Clearly don’t care about providing a seamless experience for customers. Also make SURE to get your tickets stamped.

Incredible experience, bought a day ticket for the family. Going into the bus and nobody explained anything. Not much later the inspection grabbed our passports and cards and screams that we were doing wrong. We had a big problem according to him. Absolute zero respect to elderly and a disgrace to the country Italy. Giving a bitter taste to the country, they do not deserve to be part of the European Union. In the end 6 times 54 euros.

First of all, let’s get the good stuff out if the way cause it’s quicker. The trains are clean and usually faster and cheaper then Train Italia for long distance trains. It’s usually a pleasant experience. That being said, DO NOT use them if you have to make a tight connection or are relying on them to be on time because more often then not, they won’t be.

Roma ATAC is a pretty simple metro system to use and follow. There’s plenty of signage, regular trains and a one-way fare is 1.50 EUR but you can buy a seven-day pass for 24 EUR. Bus tickets are also interchangeable with this and cover the whole of Rome. As is the norm for below-level metros, it’s unclean and there are beggars at most subway entrances and exits.

We spent nearly $2000 for Eurail passes and reservation fees for a family of 4 (plus one "free" child under 12 so 5 people total but only 4 we had to pay for) for "5" days of travel between France/Italy/Austria/added a 4th country never went to because no pass for just "3 countries". Any of the desirable trains (like high speed or night trains) required mandatory reservations which made this cost so much. Also, many routes excluded. For example, we wanted to take a night train from Paris to Italy-- NOT INCLUDED!-- just with a 25 % discount. So we had to take a night train to Nice instead. Guess what happened when we arrived at the Paris train station for our night train to Nice? We found out there was a strike and our train would not leave that night. They had us sleep on a non moving train! And they locked the bathrooms and only gave us access to the bathrooms at the train station. We then had to take a train in the morning to get to Nice (luckily it was high speed and we go there by 12:30 pm).
The train from Nice to Florence, however, had great views along the coast.
We realized what a poor value the Eurail was within a few hours of buying. I called them the next business day and was told I could return but had to pay a fee (something like 15% of the $1600 fee paid [that was the price before the reservation fees]).
My husband and I had traveled Eurail in the 80's and 90's and wanted to show our kids rail travel in Europe. I think I could have gotten better price by going directly to the rail website vs. Eurail.

This is a fast, cheap and relatively easy way to travel the city. Trains are clean and run at regular intervals but it does get very crowded during peak hours.

if you choose hotel near this area (Novotel La Rustica Rome), there are no way you want to go to city center using cheeper solution. there are 2 train station which is here and la rustica iur. But both have no counter to buy tickets to rome city center (rome, tiburtina or rome, termini). no booth or no whatsoever. They only have machine to validate the ticket. So you need to take a cab to tiburtina station and it will cost you more in the rush hour because of the traffic jam.

Our driver, Michele, went above and beyond in so many ways. We were late arriving at Roma Termini but he stayed in touch. We needed some help with Covid tests for the next day's flight and he was invaluable. We were starving and he took us to the best panini place in the city. Traffic was abysmal and slow and many roads were closed, but he extended the tour so we wouldn't miss out. He stopped at a special place because I'm a photographer. His knowledge was broad, his commentary interesting, and his humanity abounding. I had been to Roma (my friend had not), but it was one of the best afternoons I've spent there. Grazie.

We hired Mauricio to be a driver from the airport to freshen up at the hotel and then a day of hitting the main sights in Rome. Although we hired him as just a driver he shared a lot of information and even at the end of the day when our time was almost up he squeezed in a visit to an off the beaten path fountain area. It was great and comfortable for our jet lagged group of 7.

Outstanding service - We were a party of 8, we did 2 day trips with an outstanding driver from Best Rome Driver. Michele was a great guide, knowledgeable on a variety of topics. He was also super helpful, kind, courteous and flexible. We had a great time and would do it again! BRD also arranged for pickups and drop offs to the Rome open. We really appreciated the service, punctuality and the overall experience with them.

We used them for 4 different transfers. From Airport to Rome and from Rome to Cruise Port and reverse. We had several bags, so they sent a van for all but the last ride. Honestly, our last ride was on time for pick to take us to airport, but showed up in a car and was very frustrated with the luggage situation and he refused to let me call the company. He finally jammed our stuff in the car and then stopped at a lot on the airport property where all the private transfers were waiting (food and coffee shop location), told us to wait, we waited about 5 minutes and he came back with a ticket for his car. All this to say, that ride was a bit off, BUT he got us to the airport and on time. Our last trip to Rome, we used a different company and they were late and that is a huge mistake in my book. The company was great to prebook with and very responsive via email. Turns out several other cruisers used them as well and all of them had great experiences getting out to the cruise port and airport. Highly recommend.

Our airport pickup couldn’t have been smoother. Domenico was waiting for us with my name on a sign, as soon as we got to the exit. He helped us put the bags on luggage carts, and guided us to the van. It was a bit of a walk, so he made sure our entire group of 10 stayed together, and everyone was OK. He was a great driver and very friendly!

Tivoli Garden Villa d' Este & Pope's Summer Residence
    September 2021

Our private tour with Alessandro was one of the highlights of our trip. First, we had great communication while planning our tour. Due to Covid we had to postpone it from 2020 to 2021. Alessandro was very accommodating. We had a wonderful tour of Tivoli Garden Villa d' Este. What an amazing place. He was very informative and enthusiastic. We then went to the Pope's Summer Residence, which due to Covid, was not open to the public, but the town was utterly charming. The lakes formed from two ancient volcanoes were beautiful. It was our last tour of a very long trip to Malta, Sicily, and Italy and the quiet lovely hill town was the perfect way to end our trip. We highly recommend Alessandro to any one visiting Italy!!!
