Marco was excellent. He picked up our group of 7 from the cruiseport and showed us all of the highlights of Rome. At every stop, he had helpful suggestions including some hidden locations to stop to get good photos. Because he couldn’t park the van, he would tell us stories between stops, get us as close as he could, and drop us off for 20-30 minutes to take photos and walk around.
He gave us a nice suggestion to stop for a coffee halfway through the morning, and gave us a delicious suggestion for lunch, where we stopped for an authentic pasta lunch. The place was affordable, delicious, and far enough away from the main tourist areas to not be swamped with tourists.
To point out the obvious (and of course there is nothing they can do about this): you cannot see all of Rome in one day. This trip included stops to the Coliseum and Vatican City, but we couldn’t go inside – the lines were easily 2-4 hours long. So this is a quantity over quality excursion, and if you want to go into some of these locations then you need to be willing to spend most of the day waiting in line to get in.
In all, an incredible packed day in Rome. Marco knew all the best spots for photos, coffee, and food, and had plenty of stories and history to tell.
