I almost missed the trip due to my taxi being delayed and then canceling on me, however the tour operator called and assisted me on getting to a later pickup point. I am incredibly grateful for this, as they had no obligation to wait for me and assist me in this way. The trip itself was a fantastic experience, there is nothing in this world like Pompeii. Lunch was at a vineyard with a beautiful view, and a high quality 3 course meal was offered. This was a pleasant surprise, as I had assumed we were just getting a couple slices of pizza. Finally, as someone who loves hiking, climbing Mt. Vesuvius was an incredible experience that I will never forget. - Joshua L14 contributionsViviana was our lovely, charming, and very engaging guide today from Rome to Pompeii, Positano, and the Amalfi Coast and back. She couldn't have been a better guide: fun, knowledgeable, and super personable. Titziano, our driver, was essentially a magician -- driving down to Pompeii and then along the twistiest coastal route to and from Positano like he was born to do it, and then all the way back to Rome with nary a yawn. Safe, smooth, and extremely impressive. The guide (Carlo) at Pompeii was excellent, fun, smart, and knew his stuff as well. The pizza in Pompeii was ok but the bus was climate controlled and comfy, and the day was informative, entertaining, and really excellent. And we're not usually bus tour folks. Great communications as they cancelled our original tour date and rescheduled for 2 days later, which actually worked out perfect.
We had full van with @ 15 people total. Shuttle Van was very comfortable and our guide MiMi was wonderful and very entertaining - sharing much history and local insights with the group on the hour ride to Pompeii.
Mimi introduced us to Vincent, our licensed Pompeii guide when we arrived. Vincent was wonderful and took us to all the main sites. Pompeii is huge - wish we could have stayed all day but the few hours we were there we did see a lot! I would now be comfortable to go back on my own but this was a great quick intro to visit this amazing site.
There are restrooms and a coffee shop open (in November) at the entrance to the site where you a grab some coffee or a snack.
Next, we all loaded back up in the van and headed up Mt V. We stopped for lunch ($20 EU ea) and it was wonderful - 3 course with wine and optional limoncello ($3EU) afterwards. They should really mention this available lunch option in the advertisement as it would be quite a long day w/o any stop for food.
The climb up Mt V is not for the weak. I’m 57 and not in best shape. it took everything I had to make the climb. Mimi said we had 1 hr and 1/2 to go up and back down. I noticed most people had no issue in competing within this time but it was difficult for me- however- I managed to pull it off, barely.
There are 2 souvenir stands up the hill but no open restrooms (in November). There is a restroom at the entrance but you must purchase something at the store to use the restroom.
I am glad I climbed Mt V so I can say I did it but I could have just stayed at Pompeii all day as it was the highlight for me personally.
We arrived back in Sorrento about 5pm so it was a total of @ 9 hrs start to finish.

- Bex S1 contributionThis tour was very good! The team at The Walks made this trip run smoothly and I would particularly like to thank Cosimo for being a very personable and friendly tour leader. He was fun, knowledgeable and clear which is what you want on a tour that lasts 12 hours so it was very enjoyable! I personally loved the guided tour of Pompeii with our guide, Francesca. She was approachable and an expert archaeologist so I learnt a lot! We were also taken to the town of Sorrento and given 2 hours to roam around. LuLu did a great job coordinating our trip from Sorrento and Margaretta did a fabulous job teaching us about Pompeii and taking us to the most interesting sites! She was extremely knowledgable!
