The check-in is a bit chaotic, as nobody clearly takes charge of things. We booked a tour with an English guide, yet he was ill because of covid.
We opted for an Italian guide instead and I translated for my students. Grazia was an absolute star, as she was very occupied with everyone's wellbeing during the tour but also explained everything we saw and did very clearly.
The first part of the tour is underground, with some narrow hallways which the students absolutely loved. The second part is an old house with remains of an ancient theatre.
Grazia was a perfect guide and deserves your preference whenever you can choose a guide. The guide in English was excellent and really entertaining, he took us from 500 years ago right up until the use of the tunnel in the 1960s. - Tori E3 contributionsThis tour really surprised us, it was great! Really cheap about €7 and the tour guide was amazing. Lots of detail to the history.
The tour guide also explained that they also help social projects with the monies made, which is fabulous
Slightly difficult to get to but worth the walk.

Personally, I loved that there are sooo many amazing statues, and also the mosaics.
I know it's great to do things digitally, but a paper map would be helpful, in addition to the downloadable PDF

Decided to go in Oct as it’s quieter. It was truly a great experience. One must go with the idea of looking at the artisanal work done by the store owners. There is plenty of the same thing but it’s the work that goes into making these pieces that makes the visit worthwhile. The purpose of going is to buy LOCAL MADE IN ITALT and not cheap imports. I will definitely go again to expand my collection. I was intrigued. A must for any lover of “Christmas Magic”. Would I go in the middle of summer, November or December? It was here, or near here, that the last emperor of the Western Roman Empire was imprisoned. While I expected views from a few levels in most directions, what i saw was spectacular views from many levels in all directions. Very easy to get to via funicular and relatively short walk, Reasonable ticket price. Beautiful and particular for its austerity, the church of Santa Chiara displays masterpieces by Giotto and Tino da Camaino. The complex also houses a wonderful majolica cloister, and an 18th century Neapolitan nativity scene with glimpses of life from the time.
