- Nicole B2 contributionsAt the end of our 3-week holiday traveling through Italy from the US, we found ourselves craving live music and feeling a little homesick. A simple Google search for “live music near us” in Naples led us to Keste, and it turned out to be the best musical experience we’ve had not only in Italy but in our entire lives.
We arrived at Keste on a Wednesday evening around 10 pm. My musician husband immediately noticed a drum kit—the first he had seen since we arrived in Italy. The amazing wait staff greeted us warmly and promptly handed us drink menus with clear prices, contrary to some reviews claiming they were overcharged. Our drinks arrived quickly, and we instantly felt at home.
The locals, who seem to frequent this bar on Wednesday nights (which we learned is jam session night), asked if we played music. My husband, a drummer, was invited to collaborate on the drum kit—not once but multiple times throughout the night. What was meant to be a one-hour stop turned into an all-night amazing experience. The bar seemed to get even better as the night went on!
The vibe at Keste was nothing short of incredible. The music, the owner, the staff, the openness, and the overall sense of belonging made us feel right at home. If you are a musician in Naples, this is THE place to be. If you enjoy music and great people with great energy, this is THE place to visit. From the second you arrive at a nonedescript door and press a buzzer, you get a feel of a "speakeasy" bar. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic staff member in his white tunic and he ushered us into our booked table. The ambience is great and decorated as you would expect for a speakeasy bar. Jazz music playing over the PA system added to the ambience. We were seen to quickly and ordered our first round of cocktails. The one with the most "theatre" was the trio of Negroni's (€18) as it came on a motorised carousel. All the waiters/waitresses spoke English and all were professional and friendly. With each order of cocktails you also get a bowl of olives and a bowl of savoury snacks. Yes, it is not cheap (our 8 cocktails came to €120) but it is of high quality and it is an "occasion". They make excellent Old Fashions (top shelf Bourbon or Rye) with a good pour. I was impressed and came back again. It was excellent the second time as well! The owner Marco is lovely, friendly and conversational, and clearly has a passion for really well made cocktails and quality, classic music. It was only around 11pm but when we asked for the cocktails menu we were told that they had run of any alcohol so no cocktail or beer was available, they only had a non-alcoholic cocktail made of pineapple and kiwi. We accepted the offer as we just wanted to have a seat, enjoy a drink and the nice music playing.
