Parque del Retiro is a very large park and green oasis in Madrid city.

It covers more than 125 hectares and more than 15,000 trees.

It is now named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The park has a large artificial lake, where you can rent a rowing boat.

You can also visit Velázquez Palace and Glass Palace.

There are lots of seating areas for picnics and several restaurants to dine and have a drink.

We had a very specific agenda of artists and their works to see during our visit to the Prado. Based on our list we decided to come for the free admission hours as we estimated about 2 hours of viewing before we would get tired.

The queue to get the free ticket was pretty long but moved at a reasonable pace. After we received our free paper ticket we then had to move to a different line for the security check. That went a bit faster and then we were off on our hunt for our target pieces.

Using a map we were able to navigate through the many rooms and checked off pieces as we saw them. It was quite crowded so we had to be a little patient as we wandered around or waited to view a painting. No photos were allowed anywhere and the docents were mostly on top of chastising those visitors who made the mistake of using their phones.

As it got to within 15 minutes of closing, a ringing sound echoed through the museum. Ushers then started to heard people towards the exits. I have never seen this before so it was quite surprising.

We achieved our objectives but next time we visit will be a little more leisurely paced.

September 2022 - The comparison between this royal palace and the one in London is inevitable if you have been there the previous week. Madrid Palace is not surprising from the outside, but once inside you appreciate it more than Buckingham Palace.

September 2022 - Not a very large museum, but well organized with many works by many artists from different countries. I think it is worth a couple of hours visit.

This is a great small museum. It’s very interesting to see the house and imagine that when Sorolla built it, there was not much else there. The gardens are very peaceful. I didn’t know anything about Sorolla but before going to the museum I researched his life & paintings. He is a master of light and according to a Spanish friend his works set in Valencia reflect the special light of the Mediterranean. Many, many masterpieces. We got there about 11am and it was very crowded. When we left two hours later the line was around the block. We got in for free!!! Don’t know why, maybe free for seniors.

Vibrant and energetic market with variety of food and drinks. We came on Saturday afternoon and it was very crowded, so difficult to get food. Nevertheless, the place is a great way for a new cultural experience.

The Debold Temple was located on a small hill in Parque De Oste. It was a short walk from the Palacio Real.

We knew the inside was closed that day so we spent our time waking around the temple itself. I did not realize but security would not let any one near the temple as well. We watched them come out of the temple itself and chase people away.

In the winter, the water that surrounded the temple had been drained but not sure if that also had to do with the drought conditions.

Still a worthwhile visit to see a complete Egyptian temple without needed to travel to Egypt.

There are some ostentatious architectural features in the area. Many tourists visit this square to take instagram photographs.

It is worth a visit as it is within walking distance to the shopping street in Serrano.

Came to Puerta del Sol for New Year's eve (both in the day and night time). Daytime it was crowded, but not generally bad. Night time, it was more crowded than expected to the point the crowd was controlled. Once the clock struck midnight, the fireworks came. Certainly nice to see, but not as big or vast as what you'd see in a waterfront.

If your intention is to see the fireworks, come early before the crowds come and the station exits are closed

The museum itself is quite astonishing. Yes it is true that they only let in 40 people at a time, understandable once you get inside. It is a feast for the eyes. BUT the staff, especially at the ticket office, could use a few lessons in customer service. We are legal residents in Spain with the yearly pass to all the State Museums. The woman at the ticket office seemed QUITE unwilling to believe my VISA and was extremely unfriendly. In addition, the lighting is quite poor throughout, making it difficult to see some of the really great paintings. I almost completely missed the Greco, and the Caravaggio is partially covered by objets d'art. Shameful. Also, having to lock up my tiny PURSE, which is the type that goes across the body was patently ridiculous. I will go back for the beauty, but now am prepared for the horrible treatment of the staff. Some positives were that, because they limit the amount of visitors, I was able to take numerous fabulous photos of the rooms, since you cannot even go into several of them, but have to look from a doorway. Again, understandable considering the amount of objects and art on display in every possible space. It was a mixed bag of an experience but still recommendable due to the sheer amount of fabulous artist objects.

Madrid has to be one of the most beautiful city's in the world, been here many times over the many years I've been travelling and this city to me gets more enchanting with every visit.
An absolutely must go destination for me on any holiday I take here is Paseo De Prado which is a wonderful tree lined boulevard that runs on from Calle De Alcala to roughly down to Atocha Railway Station, its a very peaceful boulevard, there's great fountains to admire such as Cibeles Fountain, Neptuno Fountain and Fountain Of The Artichoke ,its a lovely walk with great looking buildings flanking this boulevard, if you're planning a holiday to Madrid its a boulevard to check out.

Palacio De Cristal or Glass palace is located at El Retiro Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was originally built in 1887 as a greenhouse as part of an exhibition on the Philippines.

It is now used all year round as a venue for hosting temporary exhibitions.

It was modelled on Joseph Paxton’s Crystal Palace which had been erected in Hyde Park (London) back in 1851.

Whilst in this pretty park its worth visiting this unique building.
