What travelers are saying
- Steve_of_N21London, UK2,145 contributionsThis is a small triangular Barrio that is sandwiched between Arganzuela to the west and south, Lavapies to the east and Austrias to the north.
Serviced by the metro station of the same name, La Latina is synonymous with beers and Tapas in Madrid and is home to multiple bars and restaurants packed into its narrow streets. Exceedingly popular at weekends when it is elbow room only to order at a bar, the two main streets that are home to the majority of the bars and restaurants are Cava Alta and Cava Baja.
Then on Sunday this district is home to the El Rastro flea market which runs the length of Ribera de Curtidores and adjoining streets, but the advice is to get here early for that as it gets extremely bustling and busy from mid day onwards.
We enjoyed strolling around here and the neighbouring barrio of Lavapies, another interesting area that is trying to balance being one of the lowest rent areas in Madrid and the traditional district for immigrants to Madrid with the gentrification that is now taking place. One recommendation is to make a small diversion from the market to visit the Mercado de San Fernando, an interesting traditional covered market which is home to normal market stalls and bar and Taberna stalls.Written June 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lit up at night.Written June 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Shop DNew York City, NY245 contributionsThis place is defenitely worth making a trip! It smells with history. The architecture, the icons... But, leave it to Europeans to remind you who's in charge! We got kicked out, because the church was going to be closed for a nite! Welcome to Madrid! )))Written August 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mikael FHelsinki, Finland30,552 contributionsThis 17th-century Roman Catholic church is located near Almudena Cathedral and Royal Palace.
The Baroque-style church was called previously Church of the Sacrament but since 1980, it has been Cathedral Church of the Armed Forces and the seat of the Military Archbishop of Spain.
From the outside, the church looks quite modest but the interior is stunning.Written March 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is the small chapel from the 16th century is part of the church complex of San Andres, although the entrance is separate and is at the rear of the church. The chapel is beautiful. The precious altar of the chapel are made of alabaster. To visit without a doubt. I recommend this visit.Written April 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- AdamLeavesCanberra, Australia501 contributionsThe plaza has a statue of the famous playwright Spanish monk, Tirso de Molina. As well as bars, cafes, a theatre, supermarkets, ATMs and a subway station. It's a bustling, colourful noisy place, and a good place to be based when visiting Madrid. It's also a bit smelly especially in the morning due to men urinating on the ground when they think no one is looking.Written November 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve_of_N21London, UK2,145 contributionsThis square close to La Latina subway station is surrounded by residential buildings with a few with interesting architecture, and contains the bronze statue of Eloy Gonzalo, a famous Spanish soldier. The statue is commonly known as the Cascorro Statue, hence the name of the square.
Most people will come here on a Sunday when the square is consumed by the El Rastro flee market.Written June 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the middle of the floor, there is an octagonal structure with a 7 steps leading down, where baptisms by immersion are performed. This is the baptismal fontWritten April 23, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dimitris LSydney, Australia43,039 contributionsWe like visiting church buildings, not for religious reasons, but purely from an aesthetic point of view. And so it was with Iglesia de San Andres. We stumbled across it and went in. Looks rather interesting. It's quite different from many other church buildings and it has a certain appeal, considering its unusual architectural looks. It's much nicer inside than nit is outside. Worth checking out if you are around the area.Written July 4, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael2810Hampton, Australia1,133 contributionsThis market is an extensive place, most likely mainly used by the locals for their shopping. When we went it was quiet but not too sure if it was the wrong time of day or wrong day of the week. Not too sure it is a destination worth visiting unless you are in the area.Written May 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nomadman411978London, UK3,169 contributionsIglesia de San Pedro El Viejo is remarkable not least because of its tall Mudejar tower which is almost completely plain except for horseshoe arched shaped windows at the top. It doesn't really sit comfortably with the overall design of this fine 14th church but certainly adds interest.Written November 27, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Malgorzata12,000 contributionsPlaza de los Carros is a square in Madrid located very central in the city. It is very busy and popular place. On the outskirts of the square, the most noticeable buildings are Palace of the Duke of the Infantado and Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle with the dome of the chapel of San Isidro. A very nice place with a fountain.Written July 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dimitris LSydney, Australia43,039 contributionsWhen there is a bit of extra space the Spaniards call it a plaza! This plaza seems to be a bit of extra space on an intersection, so the plaza was created. But that is not a bad thing, because it allows the surrounding cafes and restaurants to do some roaring trade. It is not such a bad spot. If they want a plaza, then a plaza it is! You don't have to go out of your way to visit, because it is not better than many others, but if you are in the neighbourhood, you will probably cross paths.Written July 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK615,514 contributionsWhile wandering around the wonderful La Latina neighbourhood we passed through Plaza De La Paja and this beautiful church most certainly dominates the square.
Capilla De Nuestra Senora Y San Juan Letran was constructed by 1669 in the beautiful Baroque style of architecture that is so pleasing on the eye, not much information on the church and I couldn't gain access but I was suitably impressed with the church to stop admire the church and take a few photos before moving on ,easy to locate on Plaza De La Paja and most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.Written October 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
